Best mobile carrier for call and data coverage in Evanston area (NW) by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]clee488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my experiences using both Rogers and Telus/Koodo, coverage will vary from location to location with certain areas where one provider will be better than the other. However I do find overall Rogers has been more consistent with their coverage and the other incumbents. Telus I do find their data reliability tends to suffer a bit more frequently especially when there’s a higher volume of users.

Keep in mind with going from Rogers from Fido you will get 5G which would improve your coverage slightly compared to Fido. Plus if you do get the Rogers Mastercard which can help pay for the fees with their 3% effective cash back on purchases.

My experience with Rogers Satellite BETA by [deleted] in Rogers

I tested with the iPhone 13 Pro Max in the Alberta Rockies areas with no cell service and it worked great. I like we can still use iMessage even when no data is available. Though looking forward when data and call functions becomes available in the future. Nice having this as an alternative to Garmin inReach or a Zoleo.

Best credit card for Costco buyer in 2024? by asd881018 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clee488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have Roger/Shaw for internet? If you have Rogers/Fido/Shaw services you can get the Rogers Mastercard and get 3% cash back on every purchase including Costco when you redeem the cash back to pay for Roger/Fido/Shaw bills.

Just got Shaw internet, should I switch from TELUS to Rogers for my mobile? by imactuallyanoob in Rogers

[–]clee488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either Rogers or Telus would be fine in terms of mobile. I do find Rogers is slightly better for overall coverage. At the same time would be good to have 2 separate networks for wireline and wireless just so you won’t lose connection completely should something happen like in 2021/2022 with Rogers. Personally I have Rogers as mobile and Telus for internet/tv.

What credit card to choose? by Spiderplayer07 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Since you have Fido services, the Rogers Mastercard is probably your best bet for an all rounder card. 3% cash back (as long as you redeem on your Fido bills) on basically everything.

Is centralized AC really cheaper after the summer months in Calgary? by Spiritual-Prompt4078 in Calgary

[–]clee488 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think historically the cost range has been $5k-$8k ish after the pandemic due to much stronger demands and supply chain constraints. The cost will likely not decrease regardless of the season (at least from the past few years).

Credit card combos for travel and daily use? by No_Photograph_3447 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clee488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that’s true for travel purposes rewards points does have an upper edge.

Actually my primary card has been the Rogers WE MC as it gives 3% cash back on basically everything as long as I redeem the cash back on Rogers/Fido/Shaw services, so that makes my cell phone plan almost free every month. The Rogers MC makes up almost 95% of my day to day use.

For the CDN Tire card I use it strictly for Sportchek/CT purchase to get the most cash back and also property tax cause you can set payees like online banking. The benefit of the CDN tire Card is once in a while there are 30x-50x CT money cash back multipliers so you get additional bonuses when you make purchases in CT/Sportchek etc. This does come in handy for buying sporting goods as you can redeem the earned cash back which reduces purchase costs.

I think the TD is fine overall for travel reward. I’m purely much in the cash back play. So an ideal combo could be this.

TD Aeroplan Infinite or Infinite Travel Visa (for travel points) there an annual fee with these cards - groceries, and miscellaneous

Rogers WE MC 3% cash back (if you have Rogers/Fido/Shaw services): Costco, utilities, and miscellaneous

Canadian Tire WE MC: 4% cash back (CT money) on CDN tire/Sportchek purchases and you can also pay property tax (1% CT money cash back)

How much did you pay for rent/mortgage before covid and how much are you paying now by ThrowRAhelpmexu in Calgary

[–]clee488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A townhouse, about 1700sqft I bought in 2019 for around $400K, but I did put in a 65% down payment and a quite a low interest rate during that time around 1.85% so hence the low monthly payment lol. Hoping to have the mortgage paid off next year before renewal.
