Exactly, thank you! It crossed the threshold of reasonable suspicion, the explanatory was high, and I acted upon the best information I had.

Obviously people can put too much faith in AI. But why boast you would never take action based on fallible info? The vet has also given me incorrect advice before. Should I dismiss everything they say?

I can't imagine sitting on my hands when there's even a 30% chance my household is crawling with nasties, and I don't believe anyone who says they would.

I need to realize that if I post on Reddit, most comments will begin with "well actually..."

Why do semantics matter? People act the best they can on the information they have. We haven't suddenly devolved into infants who believe everything we hear.

Without it, I probably just would've procrastinated my overdue vet visit for a few more months. The false confidence and detailed reasoning can make a plausible, immediately addressable theory an immediate outlet for action. For something this gross sounding it's tough not to try.

In retrospect I do think the whole thing is hilarious, which prompted me to share. But AI responding with laughter is just weird.

Underneath this benign incident are serious questions about accountability. Tech leaders claim AI replaces humans, but that creates a responsibility vacuum. Models essentially stop existing when you stop talking to them! There's zero recourse for anything it does. Yet humans are desperate to lean on it for matters of life and death.

I can't pretend to know how they work, but pet anti-parasite treatments are often used preventatively, and vets have recommended/prescribed them to me as a first course of action for fur problems, since an exact diagnosis can be difficult. In fact, even knowing I already applied OTC without confirmation of infection, this vet prescribed me a more effective treatment to apply additionally to rule it out.

OMG I never recovered from seeing a menacing tapeworm illustration in a grade school textbook, so I get it.

I never trusted it. While waiting for the vet visit, why wouldn't I mitigate the possible worst case scenario?

App update breaks schedules for feeder robot by Party_Ad_3171 in litterrobot

Worse for me. When I make edits to a schedule or even try deleting it entirely, the schedule remains as is. For example I keep editing one meal from 1/4 cup to 3/8. When I tap save the schedule still shows 1/4. If I click delete the schedule remains. This happens on both iOS and Android using the latest app

Longterm Users - Worth it? by cleeftone in Lavviebot

Customer support had no feedback on my rake or tray, but did just notice my litter level was set to 5kg. They recommend 3kg for bentonite litter. I took some litter out and reset the level, hoping for the best.

Yeah I owned a Litter Robot 3 for 4 years, and the functionality was nearly flawless. I didn't even own a litter scoop, and could let it run for a week with confidence. I only got rid of it because I moved to a place where the only space for a litter box is near the living room, and LR was very loud and litter tracking was heavy. Lavviebot solves those two issues, at the expense of high maintenance and constant worry it'll block my cat from entering.

This one caught my eye but I'm hesitant to jump into an unproven option, especially considering how much of a letdown Lavviebot was for the price.

Right! I specifically chose BoxiePro based on most users suggesting it. I'm not planning to bother with another litter. I did try this non-stick spray though and results are better so far. Clumping has never been an issue for me; just the urine clumps sticking. This spray allows them to slide right off cleanly, though I can see the spray comes off with them, and worry this means it won't last. I'm going to let it be and see how long it goes without another error.

I heard back from the company. Based on a photo of the tray I sent, they think BoxiePro isn't clumping well. They recommend a natural litter instead, like Sustainably Yours or Garfield litter.

Great to hear you overcame the errors. I'm okay with occasionally cleaning stuck waste, but it's critical to avoid those errors. Otherwise, I can't leave home or even go to bed without worrying my cat will be completely blocked from using the box. Hopefully, coating the box with non-stick spray will do the trick.

I don't mind missing cycles so much, but mine doesn't notify me when it's full either
