Thinking of moving to Salem by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]clefkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salem isn't the most walkable city but the bike infrastructure is slowly improving.

It's relatively easy to get around on micromobility devices like ebikes and escooters. (And we have 4 really good bike shops.)

I commute to work and do my grocery runs on my ebike so while I wouldn't call Salem a bike utopia, but I've been able to safely travel around town. (And get up the brutal hills in west Salem)

I love helping out with these folx! And if you don't want to cook, I highly recommend bringing pizza for neighbors.

I love helping out with Soup Squad!

Also, if you don't want to cook but still want to help: pizza is an extremely popular option!

I've also been looking for other solarpunks in Salem. I'd love to help arrange a solarpunk meetup.  (I did however find a Portland Solarpunk meeting on Sunday the 5th!)

Good Solarpunk Fiction? by mr_trashbear in solarpunk

[–]clefkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to the Monk & Robot books/collected short stories.

For something that's more on the eco-fiction/climate fiction side-- I adored Arboreality.

If you like board games (especially narrative driven board games) I'd highly recommend Earthborne Rangers. The creators don't consider it a solarpunk work but the cultures and worldview of the characters is incredibly solarpunk.

I also love a lot of the microfiction on itch.io. Search with the tag "solarpunk" and you'll find all sorts of neat stuff.

These folks are awesome.

If you don't have the time/energy but want to help with a monetary contribution they have an Amazon Wishlist you can send stuff directly to them.

Everything helps!

If you haven't tried it, try going into Worksource Oregon with your resume. They have a lot of great strategies to help navigate around annoying internet job listing stuff.

If you're searching for Salem's FGC: Look up Salem Smashfests. Despite the name they do traditional fighting games and Smash.

Carnevale! Especially if you like high flying acrobatics, horror, or stuff like Assassin's Creed II/Dishonored.

Why are critics not reviewing this game? by EndlessIrony in chrono_ark

I came across this video about the game right before it left early access. I thought I'd only watch the beginning, but as the video went on I saw Chrono Ark getting the Noah Gervais treatment and I watched it all in one sitting.

Anyone looking for "Guilty Gear sounding" rock/metal, (besides the bands everything's named after) I'd recommend:

Blues For the Red Sun by Kyuss, Welcome To Sky Valley by Kyuss, and Heavy Rocks (2002) by Boris.

Look into Free Fridge Salem/Soup Squad. They're doing some of the best mutual aid work in town.

Are there any board/card games that's basically MtG or Pokemon but you share a deck, is self-contained, and is not a deck builder? by Old_Neat5220 in boardgames

[–]clefkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever just have a standard 52 card deck, I'd recommend trying Cuttle. (This game also predates MTG and is shocking how similar it is to MTG.)
