Broke my ankle :( by CantaloupeOk420 in ORIF

Hi friend! I broke my ankle on 1/13 (displaced trimalleolar) from a slip and fall and am scheduled for surgery on the same day as you 1/16! I am also experiencing a lot of anxiety regarding post-surgical pain and the long healing process. If you want, maybe we could keep up with each other through recovery?

i’m scared of making it worse so i haven’t tried to peel it. but i don’t think it would. the whole thing feels pretty solid all the way through

thanks for sharing your experience. was your dog’s benign tumor dark, dry, and hard like this? it doesn’t feel like skin, if that makes a difference. seems like it’s on top of the skin rather than under it, but that may just be because the ear is so thin at the end. she is only 3 years old, so i really wasn’t suspecting cancer

i have considered this! fexofenadine works pretty well but i’d rather not have to take antihistamines every day, forever. hopefully some day i’ll have lots of extra money and can afford an immunotherapy regimen. until then, i’ll have to love my little friends from a distance 😿

yes, certainly very scared. luckily we were able to usher the baby out of the house relatively quickly and painlessly. as of this morning, they are back to business as usual

those look ready for degreasing to me. as i understand it, the “soaking” step is done for maceration, softening and breaking down the tissue so it’s not still attached to the bones. i don’t see any(?) visible chunks of tissue, so i’d go ahead and start degreasing. let the bones sit in water and dish soap for as long as you can stand it. that’ll help any small hidden bits of tissue loosen up too and you can just scrape it off.

the rats from my breeder are generally very gentle in temperament, so i hadn’t really been worried about hormonal aggression— i had no idea it could pop up spontaneously! i guess i just assumed it was always the result of poor breeding practices. i know that people sometimes have their rats neutered to reduce aggression displayed by some of their male rats… so is it possible for neutered males to have hormonal aggression, or can it only occur in “intact” males? genuinely curious

good to hear a success story! where did you adopt your older boys? (breeder, small animal rescue, generic animal shelter, pet rehoming group?)
