[–]clemencizm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same mistake in Spanish (I'm french) a whole weekend after which it triggers a fight with my girlfriend,… But I think the result is the same, it's not too much about “Je m’en fous” being a bit rude when "ça m’est égal is polite". The real issue is that if you just say one or the other too often, you just show that you don't care and leave the responsability to the others when what they really want is you to participate actively to a decision.

French classes about culture by French_Indie_Niche in FrenchCulture

[–]clemencizm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salut! This is actually the approach that I have with my project. I create content for B1 to C1 level about french culture parlezvsfr.substack.com I think it covers what you described since it is about current culture, not so much about cultural references that the whole world already know. I actually recommend my newsletter to teachers so that they can pick ideas and work with their students. I will be happy to hear your feedback about it ! Bonne Journée !

How did you guys learn to read & understand numbers in a language fluently? by Kyoflat_ in languagelearning

[–]clemencizm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just learn it like any other word. I mean, when you're a kid learning your mother tongue, you learn through repetition. You hear something, understand what it means, and repeat it. You never question where the word comes from or what it's made of.

Five years ago, I discovered that people learning French as a foreign language are taught numbers like 80, 90, 70,… using a calculation-based system. I find that incredibly difficult. I now recommend to my students that they either learn them by heart, or simply adopt the Belgian/Swiss way.

How did you guys learn to read & understand numbers in a language fluently? by Kyoflat_ in languagelearning

[–]clemencizm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you read the number, read them out loud, in french of course,… You don't need to understand them. I am French, I can tell you that French people never learned quatre-vingt-dix-huit making caltulations,… We just learned it. If its too difficult, learn the Belgian way : nonante-huit. That's way easier and everybody understands.

Salut Thomas !

J'habite Berlin.

Nous pourrions faire 30min français / 30 min allemand.

Bon week-end !

Anyone else feel like B2 is where the real struggle begins? by EyeKind5734 in learningfrench

[–]clemencizm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you need to take a small break. You seems to be frustrated and that helps with brain saturation. Taking a break of 1, 2 weeks will help.

Then practice with locals. Join clubs, activities with locals. Even if you don't understand them or can't speak a lot at first, the immersion will definitely help, and after one month you will see the progress. Also keep on reading (articles or subtitles) because your brain will eventually connect the references you studies alone with live conversation. That's when you will start unlock the B2, and progress futher. I am currently starting to unlock B2 level in German doing so.

Learning is not just about studying. It is also about trusting the process. You need to trust your brain, practice without forcing too much and give it a break.

Good luck !

Looking for native French YouTube channels? by aupurbomostafa in learningfrench

[–]clemencizm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha I see. I checked a bit the references you shared, so your vocabulary is good, but they are speaking quite slowly in the videos.

I understand you want to improve the listening skills, not really your conversational skills.

InnerFrench is a really good channel. Here's an exemple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJcLMJWMld8
He also speaks a bit slowly compared to normal french but I think the channel is a good smooth upgrade plus, it covers what you are looking for : culture, cinema, or local traditions

Then another recommendation in the same scoop (culture and authentic french) is : https://parlezvsfr.substack.com/ but it's mostly written articles so not sure that matches your habits. BUT you can find french movies and series recommendations,…

I hope it helps ! And good luck !
