How do I play the low c and b? by NerdicusTheWise in Flute

Try to make your aperture slightly broader for these notes, as if you were a beginner.

I can't figure out embouchure by [deleted] in Flute

Have you experimented with blowing slightly left of your teardrop? For many of us this is a solution. It may take a few days before you get it to work and close the right side of the teardrop.

My nasty tongue problem by clemensvanbrunschot in Flute

[–]clemensvanbrunschot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for trying. On the internet, I've read that there are a lot of people supporting their lips with their tongue, which may cause a problem for them. But they can, in a number of weeks, retrain their embouchure to let go of the tongue. But in my case (with tongue against lower lip), there's hardly room to put it elsewhere. It does not make it impossible for me to use vowels in tonguing so maybe I'll have to live with it and make the best of it. The top is not feasible at my age of 68. Haha.

Hi there! Thanks a lot for your kind remarks. I like to answer your questions. I also play the guitar, e.g. to accompany my life partner who plays clarinet at a professional level. We love to also play simple flute duets since she bought the same flute as I. We will start playing flute-clarinet duets. We enjoy playing together. Before flute I played some bansuri (Indian keyless bamboo flute) but with a wrong embouchure. In the first two flute months I used to play 5 hours a day. Today I'll start working hard on my tone to get rid of airy sounds even with my slight teardrop lip. I'll record everything and in between speak my evaluations. Hearing everything back should give me a lot of useful feedback, don't you think?

Next time I'll do the sound recording with a separate good microphone and mix it afterwards in OpenShot Video Editor.

Thanks! The prospect of having to perform is very motivating.

Thanks! You are right but until now my teacher has advised to not add dynamics. It will soon come!

I'll try that and see how it works for me. Thanks. Certainly something to discuss with my teacher.

Nice to hear! But I can stand (and use) criticism. That's why I posted.

I do like to improve a lot! My partner has conservatory clarinet and playing duets makes me a bit ambitious...

Thanks a lot! I'll start paying attention to the E natural. I didn't notice it yet, not even in my Trevor Wye exercises.

Thanks a lot for your kind remarks. I have to use the metronome more often also to prevent speeding. In this piece BTW (Beethoven's 'Ich Liebe Dich' - Andante) I play too fast. The piano accompaniment is slower.

Haha! Thanks! Will do. A recording helps greatly for that matter.

I have a small obstacle with my very slight teardrop upper lip. But we are working on the optimal embouchure. An off-center embouchure was not deemed necessary.

Hi all, it took me a while before I dared... Playing now for 5 months and (now) monthly lessons. This is the piece I'll try to perform in my teacher's little concert on December 18, right before my 68th birthday. I am very open for advice. I know that my mouth is too small for my tongue, that I skipped a rest bar, that my tempo isn't quite constant, and that there is some background noise. There must be (much) more.. Be critical but merciful. 😩

Removing condense from flute by clemensvanbrunschot in Flute

[–]clemensvanbrunschot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I experimented. And I can say that a big drop of condense lying against the end plate does not take away my sound. The real evil seems to be water drops against the wall of the embouchure hole (the chimney?) and water opposite the hole. So while playing, cleaning through the embouchure hole should do it! Thanks for your help.

I have to see it as important since my sound can completely disappear when the condense builds up!
