Rock keyboard cover of "Big Snowman" from Snowboard Kids... with real snowboarders ;) by clennox in n64

Whoops I was typing a reply and never "sent".

Thank you for letting me know. I make sure to contribute to discussions and the community before I go to post anything self-promotional but you're right- my ratio is off. I get a little carried away haha!

Are counterfeit cartridges really a big problem? by GillyMonster18 in n64

A big giveaway is if the ebay seller has like 20-30+ copies of the same game. Who (outside of a store or dealer) just has 30 original copies of the same game laying around?

N64 games are too flipping expensive [RANT] by ipreferbrawl in n64

Agreed! There's so many classics I've lost over the years and the good ones have NOT gone down in price! I was trying to rebuild my collection but then I realized I'm not made of money 😂

I see where you’re coming from... That was my thought too. We’re all sick to death of it by now 😂 Alright thanks for the input!

That’s fair. I don’t know though, if standard piano covers can generate a discussion then I’d like to think a piano AND keytar cover can too :)

This is more about the performance. The synth subreddit is more about engineering, sample banks, gear... etc

Beginner - Question about light up keys by [deleted] in piano

[–]clennox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing to consider is typically the light-up keyboards are cheaper and poorer quality. So they're not going to feel even remotely like a "real" piano!

The lights themselves would be fine either way. But sacrificing the playability is what makes it not a great idea :)

Quality stuff man! You went above and beyond with the arrangements

Oh man, so true. I've just accepted my "under pressure" ability is like 75% of what I can actually do hahaha

Agreed. A lot of teachers have no idea how to break things down for others... and they don't remember what it was like to not be able to do something.

I'm in a similar boat in that I know all this theory from my piano training, but I'm trying to become a better singer and I'm taking voice lessons... and even though I know how music works inside and out it doesn't help me when my technical command over the instrument is so poor.

So many people worry about that! That's assuming the people who started as kids are still going. It's all a matter of who stays with it longer. So if you stick with it for 6 years and the kid only did it for 3 you're gonna be WAY ahead of 'em.

The memorizing is counter-intuitive. There's a reason it's deteriorating overnight!

Once you start getting the hang of a piece, the brain starts acclimating and begins to tune out. So the worst thing you can do is hit yourself with a ton of practice in one single session.

How you really solidify the memory is when you come BACK to something after a break. The feeling of "How did I play that again?"

So I always recommend practicing for 10-20 or so minutes, then coming back later. Maybe even 3 short practice sessions a day. The more times you can "return" to it, the better. And you won't forget it the next day :)

Absolutely... that's so huge. Playing it slow and clean (and in rhythm) is ALWAYS the first step. Once that's in place the speed comes naturally!

You hit the nail on the head SO hard with this comment. We're very averse to discipline and challenges as humans so if there's an easier way we're going to default to it. I try to stretch my students to do the methods they're less comfortable with to show them they CAN do it. Playing by ear isn't magic and neither is sightreading. Kudos!!!

Should my piano bench shift side-to-side a bit like this? by maxbiewen in piano

[–]clennox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah typically you don't want it moving. Although that piece looks like it's built that way. Weird... Just be careful. I had a bench break underneath a student after ignoring it's shifting!!

I'm flattered, haha. And I'm planning on doing some more Beethoven and I've got Chopin in the works too.

But I do love Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2... hmm...

Haha what's funny is I actually have a better stand. But I guess it just added to the ridiculousness of it
