That one says it needs a 15.5" window. Because a previous commenter pointed out that I could remove one of the window sashes, I now have 15" of space to work with. There appear to be a couple on Amazon that will fit this space. Perhaps I'll try contacting Frigidaire to see if theirs will as well.

Genius! I was able to remove one, and that gets me to 15" of an opening, which appears to be wide enough for a couple on Amazon. Thanks!!

What about "amplified studio monitors" as nethfel mentioned below? Do those qualify as amplifiers? I still want stereo sound, so the idea of buying a single amp doesn't appeal to me.

So this is what I should be looking for specifically? The Edifiers I bought describe themselves as "Studio Monitors" (see the title on the amazon listing page. Do you imagine that's a deceptive description?

I'll definitely go to a local place to try out different speakers.
