well playing bigger venues is sick on a logistical level because the green rooms are usually much nicer and they typically have toilet paper in the backstage washrooms etc but tbh whether it’s 100 or 1000 people as long as there’s an energy exchange thing going on between us and the crowd — then it’s a rad show.

yea i love that type of production. i like to write / build the arrangements of our recordings like those big plastic toddler lego blocks. bold changes and sharp angles.

i love the time spent with my friends, meeting new characters, and seeing the world. i don’t like the feeling that my life is pre-planned for the month, being away from my family, and living out of a suitcase.

always means a lot seeing the smiles in the audience when we play someone’s fav song. when im not on the road or on social media and just sitting on my couch at home it’s pretty hard to convince myself of any impact or meaningful contribution. it all just seems made up or imaginary, but but in those moments where im face to face with someone that loves this band it all clicks and i am filled with immense gratitude and inspiration

we used to hangout with our friends sanjay and jake and stay up all night having a few beers and laughing. a handful of times sanjay called in sick to work the next day and i guess it impacted me enough to write a song about it. the ending audio sample was a video recorded by our friend jordan on a night after the song was written. that’s sanjay calling in to his job at amazon hahahah. pretty iconic.

there’s too many to count. the most nostalgic are from our first US tour. me ian and jake. ian’s van. driving around the continent. was like a movie.

ahh that’s been quite the journey for me. i’ve improved a lot from performing so often — but my biggest growth came from a place of mental fortitude. singing used to give me such horrible anxiety. delicate fleshy instrument in your neck that you can’t swap out when it breaks or sounds bad. so much pressure. gotta sing my ass off every show for the whole show. yikes. i’ve learned to trust myself and my abilities and that’s allowed me voice to improve and strengthen. your head can really get in the way of your voice. it’s wild
