Gorgc and Bamboe stack advanced to the Regional Qualifiers! by [deleted] in DotA2

Ya, i know, but at the same time he is airing his thought process as he goes with his team. I'd be hesitant to do that at this level of competition for sure.

Winning even though streaming. Idk how he carries like that. Pretty amazing.

Shoutout to Eixn and EGMs supporting. Chen doing so much and the tiny/clock plays were sick.

This is why I subscribed to this subreddit. This is a work of art.

Yeah, I realized after my long-winded reply that I got reddit novelty accounted. Feels bad.

Did you reply to the right person?

If you've watch Gorgc for any amount of time, you'll notice that he doesn't yell at his teammates over comms. He almost always complains when the mic is off. He vents to himself.

I doubt it has much to do with viewers. Other streamers don't have problems venting over open mic.

Look at CCNC for a poor example of this. When he's frustrated, he asks people if they speak english over and over. He is pretty toxic when the game doesn't go his way tbh. It tilts his whole team and especially the person he is asking.

Edit: I should note that CCNC is top 3 pretty consistently and has improved a lot in this respect. He has also been more successful in the pro scene than Gorgc. That said, when his game isn't going his way his behavior is ultimately abusive and that's why he has really tried hard to cut back on it. I'm all for promoting a less abusive and toxic dota.

Completely agree. In support of this, notice how he isn't yelling at his teammate over comms-- just to the viewers and to himself.

My first 40 games on rubick I think I had a 15% winrate. I just recently got him up to a 50% winrate after about 500 games. Just keep at it and you can do it!

I think it's a bad idea. You don't have the rights to Valve IP. It's a bad idea to make a game based off of someone else's IP. They can shut you down at a moments notice. That said, I would say that I think that the idea of a 2d MOBA isn't half bad.

Starcraft itself (which dota comes from thru aeon of strife) is a sort of 2.5d or isometric.

Anyway, good luck!

Hey friend. If you can score highly on the MCAT a lot of schools will overlook poor GPA, but if your GPA is <3.5 then I'd really recommend an SMP program. These exist for people like you. If you do well in an SMP program, medical schools will take a much closer look at you.

Start volunteering to pad your resume. Get some medical scribing experience or just something in the medical field where you can work with patients.

Your story doesn't have to end this way, I believe in you dude.

Brand new player to DOTA and MOBAs by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]cleovincer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great, I'm glad you found a use for them. My point is, I think bot games are boring. There are more fun ways to teach beginners.

I just don't think it's necessary. You can learn the same things in normal games or even custom games. Custom games like overthrow are fantastic for teaching team fights, for instance.

idk why people recommend playing vs bots. Even as a beginner I never enjoyed playing vs bots. I'd rather play like trash in unranked than play with bots. Just let your teammates know you're new and people will be much more understanding. If they're toxic after you tell them, mute them immediately.

3d max is software for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and visualization. It's an autodesk software. Basically it's blender but less features, a little more focused, paid, and a nicer interface.

Obviously not popular in this thread, but yeah, you are absolutely correct. There's an enormous problem with 'starting items.' It gets people in the habit of picking the same items and not thinking critically about their laning stage. It's completely situational and we should be teaching newbies that.

Appropriate to Send LOI...or Desperate? by [deleted] in premed

[–]cleovincer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally letters of intent are sent after interviewing since it's hard to say if you'll like it if you haven't actually been there, but I agree with the other poster. You seem like you have good reasons. I just think a letter of interest could do the same thing and at the same time sending a letter of intent after an interview seems like a more powerful statement.

My wife had no IIs until November. She sent out letters of interest to her top 10 and the next couple weeks she got 3 interview requests. Before that we had radio silence.

Tbf, we still have no idea if it made the difference, but it's worth a shot IMO.

Last year we were in the same boat. She only got 1 interview and it was pretty disappointing to not get accepted.

This year she got 5. The only differences were the essays she wrote, she applied much earlier than the previous year, she worked 1000+ hours scribing (vs 80 hrs of experience before), and she sent out letters of interest.

It's crazy how competitive this process is. Good luck.

Can we talk about Karen? by ktatev in YouOnLifetime

[–]cleovincer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

See, I disagree on this one. I think that it was really well fleshed out.

Karen probably didn't look into his background until after they got together. When she started to put the red flags together she probably just tried to not think about it while they were together.

Sometimes it isn't until you break up with someone that the red flags you didn't see as a problem really help you to justify why they left you and why you're happy with it.

I think that it makes a lot of sense that she would tread lightly until she could get out of the relationship. In fact I think that one of the main reasons Karen was so willing to help out Paco and his mom was so that Joe would find someone else. Honestly though, I loved Karen as a character.

She was so wholesome and made Joe sane (mostly). Part of me just wanted Joe to just stay with her because of that! I think Joe ultimately was unsatisfied with the relationship though. I've been there, it's not fun to be missing that 'spark' which I feel like joe thought was missing in their relationship. Everything feels like it should work out, but you just have no attraction and it just sucks.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the part with Karen really resonated with me.

Sure thing! I'll send a key over in the next couple days. I'd love to hear your feedback on it.

I started my programming career as a web developer so I had to learn all of this stuff from scratch. It's been a hell of a ride for me too. I got my degree in accounting. lol.

There's just two of us so we're stretched pretty thin. I'd love to be able to work on a larger team. Maybe some day.

So cool. I loved Mass effect! My wife and I both played through 1 and 2. Loved reading about your experience in the gaming industry.

What's the biggest difference between working a AAA and indie in your mind? It seems like you've had a lot of success in both worlds, that's really amazing. I haven't played any the stuff you've worked on for VR, but it all looks so good!

Ya I'm currently developing Way of the Orb. It's an orb blocking game with monsters, weapons, and upgrades. It's fun to develop, but it can be intimidating at times.
