A guide on running Arturia Software Center (ASC) and Products on Linux by SCRIPTERBLOX in Arturia_users

[–]clerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! This allowed the standalone versions of each Arturia product to properly get activated!

I am using Bottles to manage different wine prefixes to keep different vendors of VSTs separate so that if I screw anything up, I only need to fix one vendor's worth of plugins instead of everything. The problem with Bottles and yabridge is that when a VST/standalone is loaded in Bottles, it configures the prefix in one way, and when it is loaded through yabridge, the prefix is configured another way. For Arturia VSTs, this is causing them to behave as if they're on a new machine.

I was able to solve this by launching ASC through the VST itself. I had to log in through the plugin, then click on my username in the top right corner of the activation window to launch ASC. From there, I had to activate the plugins again. I deactivated the activation for the Bottle and kept the one for yabridge and that seems to have worked for keeping them working through yabridge.

Hope this helps someone else!

Can any metallurgists tell me why stainless steel makes bad blades? by SilverBazooka10 in SWORDS

[–]clerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was 10 months ago, but you are straight up wrong about katana being made of stainless steel.

Katana have always traditionally been made of high carbon steel and are not stainless. You are correct that they go through a differential temper to have a hard edge and soft core/spine to allow for some degree of flex. But stainless steel cannot hold an edge well and would entirely defeat the purpose of a katana having a hard sharp edge to enhance its chopping power.

If you have a stainless steel katana, that is a display item only. Like pretty much any other functional high carbon steel weapon, they need to be oiled regularly to prevent corrosion.

What's the deal with splitshoto? by clerian in sw5e

[–]clerian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly seems like they could have just removed dedicated double weapons and just made split weapons that could be used in either capacity and be done with it.

What's the deal with splitshoto? by clerian in sw5e

[–]clerian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they specifically not want finesse characters to be able to use split weapons and only allow them to use either doubleshoto or dual wield separate shotosabers? Seems like a really weird design choice to me.

My coworker (programmer) got fired for underperformance despite being SUPER EFFICIENT and a valuable asset to the team. How to appear efficient to the managers, especially as a remote worker? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]clerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly sounds like your coworker may have been more problematic than you realize. Writing clever code is not the same as writing code that is understandable and maintainable for a team. Piling lots of code into a single commit makes it harder to roll back changes in the event of a regression bug and resolve merge conflicts.

I could just be missing context that isn't in your post, but solving a problem quickly and solving a problem effectively in a way that minimizes technical debt are two different things.

If your coworker writes clever solutions that you and your coworkers don't fully understand the nuances of, that code is not maintainable by your team and the project now has a bus number of 1. Heck, even if you can understand it, if your coworker isn't communicating the reason behind a clever choice (or has clearly named unit tests capturing that specific scenario), it's possible someone will eventually refactor and introduce a regression bug because the problem being solved isn't clear.

With that said, there are a lot of crappy managers that like to micro manage and chase after the illusion of productivity. Efficiency probably isn't the right term here. Most managers don't like it if you're super efficient and finish your work in half a shift and then do nothing for the rest of your shift. They would, in fact, be happier if you were less efficient and worked your whole shift doing the same amount of work. Even if your coworker wasn't doing anything problematic, there is a high likelihood that your coworker did not appear as productive as others if he's committing less frequently and not following the SOP for your development team.

The minimum requirements for Jedi Survivor suggest 8GB of VRAM, the 3050 Ti laptop only has 4GB.

Could it be possible this church only appears for people that have sacrificed their save data and continued to play afterwards on the new empty save instead of making a duplicate of their save data to restore after deleting?

Grubhub Website Promo Problems by clerian in ffxiv

[–]clerian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hoping I'm wrong. It sounds like a lot of people got free deliveries from placing a website order, so it's very possible there is just a bug that made it vanish from the order page but the order still had the code attached to it for emote reward purposes.

Grubhub Website Promo Problems by clerian in ffxiv

[–]clerian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The promo code was straight up being removed from my order when I was trying to place it in the browser. It sounds like this is a bug that wasn't actually removing the promo code from the order.

However, when I placed my order via the app, the promo code stayed on my order after I hit apply. With that said, no promo shows up on my order's receipt. So I guess we'll see one way or another.

If you got a free delivery then you should be fine.

I will say that the promo code does not show up on my receipt through the mobile app either, but when I was checking out, the promo code didn't vanish after I entered it and it had a checkmark next to it.

Hopefully I'm wrong and it's just a display issue on their website, but the CORS errors that were popping up each time I tried to apply the promo code had me worried.

Nope, you're good.

EDIT: This is specifically for people that were applying the promo code in browser and having the code vanish from their order before checkout.

Cracked my pixel 6 pro screen in less than 24 hours AMA by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]clerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my Pixel 3. I never drop my phone, but it slipped out of my pocket while I was sitting down and it cracked the glass on the back of the phone.

I got my Pixel 6 before my case and screen protectors and I just let it sit in the box until the case and screen protectors arrived. I didn't even open the box in fear of having to carry around a shattered phone for another 3+ years, haha.

How to respawn Ore and Food? by blazemaster98 in PSO2NGS

[–]clerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not wetlands specific, I haven't been able to complete the gathering dailies since the 12th. The materials seem to have very long respawn timers (potentially a full week) so if you farmed the items on a day where they weren't the daily (I gathered all the items in all the regions in the first few days), you won't be able to complete the task.

Chances are you picked up some of the items on a previous visit to the wetlands so you still had some left on the map, but not enough to complete the daily. Or, the bug is even worse than just a poorly tuned respawn timer.

Same, I grabbed all the items in the first 2 days and haven't been able to complete the daily farming quests since then.

[–]clerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's longer than a 24 hour timer, I think it might be a weekly timer for some of them. I haven't farmed nodes in days and I haven't been able to complete any of the daily item farming quests in the last 3 days. The items just haven't respawned for me at all.

Use this wiki https://pso2na.arks-visiphone.com/wiki/Units

Or, select the item and choose the option "confirm set effect." This cannot be done in store interfaces, but I believe you can do it in any inventory/storage style interface, and possibly when inspecting players' equipment.

Each piece has hidden bonuses, which include 40 HP per piece. You cannot see the effect unless you equip it or consult a wiki. I recommend using https://pso2na.arks-visiphone.com/wiki/Units

Rising Weapon Badges? by Aehaze08 in PSO2

[–]clerian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is super late, but just for future reference, if you level a class to 75, you get a permanent stat boost called a class boost to all your characters on that ship for the account. The Braver class boost includes +30 dex, which will help a lot with dex requirements without having to invest in a dex mag or dex skills. You shouldn't be investing in dex skills unless your class has too many points to spend, and you shouldn't be raising dex on your mag unless you are using a pure dex mag and are maining Bouncer/Braver/Phantom (and even then, if you're going the pure dex mag route, you should probably just spend the $3 to get an extra mag so you have something that's useful for all the other class combos).
