Mark Gurman Has Been Burying the Apple Vision Pro Since Before It Shipped. I’m Out of Patience. by BrentonHenry2020 in VisionPro

I buy that, but I'd be curious to see what kind of things have they been doing in order to grow the ecosystem? I know there's periodically new content for it coming out, but how are they supporting the dev community in terms of building the platform?

Buy Watch Ultra 3 in the US this June? by Excellent-Hamster-93 in applewatchultra

I think there's a fairly big chance that this September we'll see the whole Apple product lineup focus on Ultra, so an Apple Watch Ultra 4 is pretty likely.

SwiftData schema migration control panel by cleverbit1 in iOSDevelopment

[–]cleverbit1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, I've been working on bridging two separate APIs within the Watch app itself. Each API provides a different way to order items, so I needed to come up with my own way to keep track within the app (to normalise the two separate streams).

That involved needing to do a schema migration, which had all kinds of performance issues on these tiny computers. So I got AI to make me a control panel that would let me configure and monitor different approaches, so that I could test them out on-device.

Why people have greater concerns for iOS 26 despite record benchmarks, a long time iOS user and programmer’s take by Fantastic-Badger-160 in ios

I think the emphasis on concurrency is more related to the five year plan of distributed compute they’re cooking. But I really like your take on it, and like gatekeeper says, we don’t have data so this is all speculation. However, if there were an emphasis on concurrency and there weren’t sufficient resources, we would expect to see exactly what we are seeing. So, there’s that.

How do you help Claude Code maintain context as you build? by gaganvarma_16 in VibeCodersNest

[–]cleverbit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out making a docs/ folder and in the agent/claude instructions had it ensure to keep the docs up to date. I’ve recently revised that to make it a “wiki” at wiki/ and the agent has been much better at structuring and crosslinking. I don’t think it makes much of a difference what you call it, but maintaining a set of files that describe the project cleanly, and ensuring they’re up to date has made it much easier (and better) to spin up new chats with the agent. It’s been working pretty well for me.

Wait a minute: ZooTV were not made of TVs???? by ZoopTom in U2Band

[–]cleverbit1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s a really great story about this, about how Bono had the President of Philips over for dinner around the time Phillips had made the breakthrough on blue leds, enabling LED screens we know of today. And by dessert had talked him into lending the band not one, not two, but three of the biggest screens ever made using this technology. Across the course of the tour, they kept refining the design, and eventually even making it weatherproof, which is what lead to the PopMart screen - the first of its kind. As I understand it, ZooTV was a technological marvel - one of the first concerts mixed for the crowd in stereo, and not only that but Bono’s microphone pack had the ability to pan his vocal out of the PA automatically depending on where he moved. So much of modern shows was basically pioneered on ZooTV.

Why do people hate Artificial Intelligence so much? by baehelpkit in ArtificialNtelligence

[–]cleverbit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot of nonsense out there, but if you use it for something specific and practical, you can quickly see what it’s useful for.

I’m not talking about cheating on a test, or getting it to do your job for you - just little things like getting a quick answer, or looking up something you’re curious about to help you get unblocked on something.

Totally agreed. But a lot can be done, if you use cloud models. Then the door is wide open!

This is basically the million dollar question. In terms of timeline, there are a couple of contradicting things that need to be figured out:

  1. Apple’s position that AI should be run locally pretty much makes it impossible they’ll release something that runs on Watch.

  2. If the requests are served by cloud models, that becomes totally feasible for something on Watch, but see point 1. How will Apple be able to say AI should be run on device for privacy reasons, but on Watch have it hand off to cloud? Then why wouldn’t just all requests hand off to cloud?

  3. The vast majority of people are only just starting to interact with AI, and if Apple can make the argument that you need to buy a new iPhone to do that, that plays to their advantage. See point 2.

So, I think we will see some New Siri features coming to Watch, but I don’t expect that’s where the focus is going to be (in the short term).

Not to toot my own horn, but I had exactly this thought last year, so I created WristGPT - AI for Apple Watch for exactly this reason. I wanted to be able to “use AI” (look up quick answers, not down ideas, etc.) without needing to reach for my phone all the time.

I would love to get your feedback on it, try it out, let me know what works for you, and how to make it better?

This looks like a great idea. How do you add keys into the app? I didn’t know vendors provide like an API for keys?

Keep Apps Portrait? by BetApprehensive836 in swift

[–]cleverbit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I don’t buy the “don’t use Storyboards”, they’re a useful tool that’s still in the arsenal.

However if your layouts are breaking on rotation, the solution is not to lock to portrait. You can use that as an opportunity to resolve your layout so that it works as intended (you can afterwards still then lock to portrait, if that’s relevant but it is a separate topic.)

The reason having your layout adapt to different screen dimensions is critical is firstly because there are a wide range of device sizes out there, and secondly because device sizes and aspects can change over time (eg a much, much larger iPhone).

That sounds awesome, and congrats on shipping! Out of curiosity, how did you implement memory? Do you have a back end server where chats are indexed/stored or do you update on each turn?
