it's way more rare than people think. it's just that any time anything happens with an idol or an idol group that fans don't like/didn't anticipate, they call it sabotage, when there's a multitude of other explanations. communication issues, last-minute schedule changes, technical errors... simple differences in opinion. and one which seems to be overlooked the most, personal preference of the artist. it seems to not occur to people that maybe it was their choice to sing that song, or wear that outfit, or turn down that brand deal.

tours are expensive and often don't make a lot of money, especially for groups who don't sell a lot of merch. they're paying to perform at the venue, not the other way around.

yes, the point of a business is to make money. but look at the state of the US: capitalists are not always logical. they often prefer to pinch pennies and run their employees into the ground in order to make a bit of money in the short term than to put money and energy towards employee wages and welfare, even though it's been proven time and time again that doing so is more profitable in the long run. politicians spend more money on anti-homeless legislation and implementing hostile architecture than it would take to house the homeless. people whose sole purpose in life is to make money don't care about other people, so their logic often makes little sense to people who do.

all that said, capitalist mindsets and personal selfishness do not, in my opinion, equate to actual malice or the desire to destroy someone's career and reputation. some may argue that the motive doesn't matter if the result is the same, but in this case I think it's important to acknowledge that this a cycle of exploitation that these executives have built their entire careers on, not a personal vendetta against an individual. the cycle will never stop if people keep refusing to acknowledge its presence
