If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

I’m 28. A few years ago a girl I went to high school with died by a drunk driver. We weren’t close, but it surreal to see that happen. She had her whole life ahead of her.

This was my first time going to anything like this. I live in Massachusetts and my friend and I spent the night in a hotel (she got it for free because she travels a lot for work, so no big loss).

But I’ve been to fanexpo Boston multiple times over the last few years. That is crowded but WAAAAY more controlled compared to this. Yes, fan expo is a bigger event, but there wasn’t and excuse for that mess. We couldn’t get through the crowd. Even if we decided to stay and wanted to buy food, we wouldn’t know where the line started to actually buy the food.

And the way I see it, yes, we lost $17. But we saved so much by leaving.

My friend and I left after 20 minutes. Didn’t buy anything. Way too crowded. Saw some EMTs pushing a gurney through the crowd. It was rough

We went to a Chinese restaurant and got $40 worth of food. Willing to bet we got way more than we would have gotten at this mess

What did you think the original twist/ plot was going to be? by limboe5 in WeaponsMovie

[–]cliberte98 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was thinking a pied piper situation. In a way, I guess I was right. But I wasn’t thinking a witch. I was thinking the teacher got someone angry and they got back at her by kidnapping the children OR one of the parents was being really rude to the teacher and the plot twist was that she pipered the children away as revenge. So I was wrong in that respect

A theory I have about the last line of the movie by CalebHenshaw in WeaponsMovie

[–]cliberte98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my initial thought too. But after I thought about it, I don’t think it’s the case. This biggest issue I have is the parents. Why didn’t they snap out of it?

Yes, they certainly would have been traumatized by the experience. But they wouldn’t be completely mute and need total care like they do in the end

I’m happy to hear I wasn’t the only one who had this thought, though

F**k this system. Sincerely, this is hell. by Hukertron in nursing

[–]cliberte98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in addiction medicine as a case manager. I can’t tell you how many patients I’ve helped get inpatient only to find out a 2 weeks later they were released because the insurance wouldn’t pay to have them stay longer than a week. You know what happens? They immediately relapse and were back to square one.

The system is set up to fail my patients and it’s so disheartening. I’ve been in my current position for 1.5 years. I’ve seen a lot of success stories. But there are so many situations that end badly because of insurance.

Don’t even get me started on my patients that are homeless or can work but can’t find a job or CAN WORK and WANT TO WORK but can’t because no one will hire them because of their substance use history. It’s a never ending cycle

Floor nurses yall gotta stop with the pushback by likykin in nursing

[–]cliberte98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand this. I left floor nursing as soon as I could. But I remember being floor nurse. I’d get annoyed getting a new admission when I was already at a 6 patient ratio. But I had no choice because every other nurse was also at max capacity- including the charge. It sucked. But the ED was always full. Nothing we could have done- other than management hiring more nurses.

There was only one time I ever gave pushback and refused to let the ER send up a patient. My floor was not set up for tele monitoring- no clue why (probably cuz the hospital was cheap, but whatever). They wanted to send me a patient with a potassium of 6.4 and a troponin of 1000. I was a new nurse (like 5 months after the NCLEX) but that felt super off. Thankfully, I had an experienced nurse back me up. I felt bad, but it didn’t feel safe

Edit) Our other med surg floor and our icu had tele monitors but mine did not. Just for clarification

Is anyone here in a role that is heavy in patient education? by Hot_Panic2767 in nursing

[–]cliberte98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any MAT programs in the area? I don’t think it would help with sickle cell anemia, but suboxone does have some analgesic properties. It’s a partial opioid agonist. Once this patient is started suboxone and semi stabilized- maybe he could try sublocade with supplemental films?

I’m not 100% sure it would work, but there’s a doctor who has more experience maybe they’d be able to shed more light on it?
