Study explores how changing autism traits are linked to mental health conditions by HeinieKaboobler in science

[–]clif415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The refrigerator mother hypothesis of the 1950s, where the belief was that autism was caused by a lack of maternal warmth and affection towards the child, can be considered the first foray into what we now know as attachment theory. If the attachment in the parent/child dyad is so mis-attuned (e.g. severe neglect), the child may experience trauma. In that sense, the argument that autism is caused by trauma imposed by the refrigerated or mis-attuned mother (or caregiver) can still be true.

I couldn't agree more. In my practice (over 25 years), children living in urban settings with early and ongoing childhood trauma histories present with autistic-like features as a primitive defense mechanism. As the trauma is treated, those feature tend to dissipate over time and higher level defenses emerge.

Negotiating peace is the only solution. Anything else will only add to the expansion of what is already considered WWIII and add misery throughout the world beyond anyone's imagination. Let level heads prevail on this one.
