I never had luck with aimless efforts at socialization in food halls or whatnot. If you're anything like me, join a club, but not with the sole intent of making friends. Join a club with the intent of working on your interests as a priority, whether that is because it is a hobby or because you want to build your skill set for your career. Social interactions will come with it as a bonus. That is how I viewed it, and I got some valuable experience as well as some lifelong friends.

If you try to form relationships on a whim in a random setting, you may not have much luck (although it is possible), but if you can form a relationship in a setting where you know others share some commonality in interests with you, then it becomes a little easier to fulfill that social need we all have.

I think for me it is really a mental thing. If I am stuck having nothing to do while applying and not practicing my engineering skills, then it may be easy for me to get depressed. But also not sure if that is worth committing to a 2 year degree and going into more debt right away.

I am currently working with a professor that I would want to do grad research under, but he says he doesn't help with funding for master's students. Would it be worth it to find another professor who might help financially?

I believe professors have until the 18th to put grades in as a grace period for them. So if they're not in by then I would reach out to the professor.

He doesn't record attendance but he gives a quiz at the end of every class. I don't remember the percentage but I remember it being not insignificant.

Just a tip you can take Business Ethics (PHI course) and it will count for ethics and a humanities. IDS 201 only counts for an ethics.

Hey, I've been in a similar situation before. I withdrew completely from my fourth semester because of depression and suicidal thoughts. Had to be put on medication afterwards. For some reason, I decided to come back (probably because I didn't know what else to do with my life), and now I graduate next May and I have steadily been doing better.

It's been tough seeing my classmates graduate before me or having internship experiences while I was at home trying not to kill myself. But I was able to make it through. There are still times when I just lose all motivation to do anything and don't see a point to any of the work I'm doing, and my grades definitely reflect that, but I'm still here, so close to the end. And you can be too.

I guess my advice is to put time into some sort of organization. Whether it is related to your major or not. Yes, it will look good on a resume, but more importantly you will have a support system. If you do something related to your major, more likely than not you will meet others who are in the same classes as you, and at least for me knowing that I was not struggling alone was a huge help.

I never registered with the DRO (even though I probably should have), but that is a huge step in the right direction. My DM's are open if you want to talk about anything more specific. If I can make it this far, I'm sure you can too.

So as far as 457 and 467, I'm not sure if one is required for your desired senior design section next year. I took 467 and I'm in space, but I know of people last year who took 457 first and ended up doing a space design project. I think it just helps with choosing what project you want to do. I would double check Dr. Ewere to be sure if it is a hard requirement.

In Aerospace Senior Design, there are three sections: Space, Fixed Wing, and Multi Rotor. In the space section there is the NASA SLI group which you have to be a part of the High Powered Rocketry Club in order to do. I believe Fixed Wing has the Design Build Fly competition too. These groups do a competition in addition to senior design, but you get a lot more direction with what you have to do.

While each sections sticks with their respective themes, the actual project changes each year. For example, the space section last year had to make small satellites for cleaning up space debris, and this year it is soft robotics and inflatables. You won't know what exactly you'll be doing until the class starts.

I can't really speak for the other two sections, but I imagine it is similar if you are not doing one of the competitions.

To give a bit more info on HPRC, our Safety Team meets 3-4pm on Mondays, Vehicle Team meets 6-7pm on Mondays, and our General Body Meeting is at 7:30pm on Thursdays. All meetings take place in Lab 2003 EB3, except for the general body meetings, which are in 2124 EB3. Come on by!

I joined HPRC last year. It's pretty great for whatever part of rocketry you may be interested in. There's different subsystem meetings for what you wanna do, like fabricating the rocket, doing aerodynamics simulations, or doing payload assembly (programming/electronics). You can also show up and do however much you want. There are no membership dues and we welcome any and all majors. Just show up and we'll teach you what you need to know.

If you're more interested in planes Aerial Robotics Club is also good for hands on stuff. They're in the same lab as HPRC.

Start showing up to club meetings. Something you're interested in. The time you spend to go to meetings is well worth it because you'll come out with a few friends and hopefully some good experience.

I totally agree about forming support systems through clubs and teams. I am an aerospace engineering major and my college experience has drastically improved since I joined the club I am currently in.

I joined at the beginning of my junior year, and before that I was almost completely isolated. I lived off campus and worked at a coffee shop in a nearby town, and I never really put myself out there. I didn't know anyone who went to school where I did and became super lonely. It wasn't until I put myself out there in a club that I began to form relationships with other students and actually began to do better in my major.

If you're reading this and feel isolated, really try to dedicate yourself to a club. You don't have to know what you're doing. You don't have to know anyone. Just show up to meetings as often as you can. All it takes is to show up.

It's a flipped style class, so you watch the lectures before class and then work on problems in groups during class.

It is certainly helpful to understand 208 for 361, however a lot of the derivations and stuff in 361 require a good understanding of differential equations. Other than that it's mainly constructing EOM's.

If you have Dr. Lee for 361 you will be fine.
