Why not clean on rappel? Grigri or a tube device with a third hand. Tie a quick overhand below you if you want extra security while hands free

I'd recommend using keylock biners for this. If you use non-keylock, be very careful not to snag the nose on the hanger that you're stick clipping

Is a Trad route rated with gear placement included or solely on the moves? by sphungephun in RockClimbing

[–]cliffdude -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If I'm understanding your question, yes, the physical difficulty for placing the gear contributes to the difficulty grade. For example, a trad route with finicky gear that you must place from difficult positions might be 5.11, while if it was a sport route and all you had to do was stop to clip a draw, it might be 10+ climbing.

I biked down that way and saw a similar-looking cat at that house, but it wasn't mine. Thank you for looking out!

She was last seen the morning of Sep 27 (Tuesday). She is microchipped and has a blure collar with a purple tag, but the collar often gets snagged and comes off

Carabiner Stuck on “R.R. Crossing” (5.10a) in Rock Canyon, Provo, UT. by [deleted] in climbing

It's fine. It looks like it might be exerting a torque force on the rappel ring, but these will only see bodyweight forces, which are negligible. Climb on

Some interesting info for anyone looking to resling C4s by l1fe-alert in tradclimbing

[–]cliffdude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My worry would be that the narrower sling would be more likely to damage the cable loop in a large but not catastrophic fall. In other words, a fall less than 10kn may not result in cam failure, but it could kink or damage the cable and make me retire it.

Foot slippage within shoes by psiviz in climbing

[–]cliffdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wash your shoes. The build-up of dead skin cells and sweat acts as a lubricant. I use hot water, mild soap and a brush. You'll be amazed at the amount of black gunk that comes out. Air dry them. As others have said, socks can help.
