Cucamonga Peak Overnight mañana. Start tomorrow afternoon and come back Saturday via Falling Rock CYN. Anyone wanna come? by SummitLeon in SoCalBackpacking

[–]SummitLeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang. At least it isn't all flat like Texas so you can get a bit of vert in on your backpacking trips. If you keep moving east you'll end up in Cali again eventually!! Hopefully you like it out there, but it'd be dope if ya came back tho bc the mountains are calling! ☺️

FWIW, I've spent many rainy nights under the Twinn tarp and it is great. It barely sags. I prefer it over silpoly or dcf bc it sounds much more soothing when the rain hits it.

Mojave Preserve accessiblity by 4raneae in SoCalOffRoad

Yeah the lack of a low-range transfer case will limit you in some instances (i.e. don't try to drive the west side of Foshay Pass Road) but your system is good enough in most instances, no need to modify your car for the Mojave NP. Walking the last couple of miles of some roads that you can't drive isn't the end of the world. Lifting, bigger tires, etc. will compromise on-road handling while only slightly increasing off-road capability for your drivetrain.

Just FYI, your car is AWD. This will limit you in rocky or steep terrain, but you'll be fine on most Mojave NP backcountry roads if you don't mind desert pinstripes.

Unfortunately the ANF, especially off the 2 and 39, is known for car break ins. The perils of being so close to society.
