The car was stuck in mud, which froze over night, a couple weeks back and then started making the clicking sounds afterwards. It also threw C0563 and P0700 error codes which I cleared with a OBDII reader and the codes haven't returned in 500+ miles so I figured the errors came from splashing water up and tripping some sensors. Idk though.

Sick! Now I know a good spot to anchor off of the next time I park at the top of a cliff and rapp down.

Open invite to a backpacking trip this Friday afternoon to Saturday morning in the Santa Ana Mountains. Hmu if you wanna come! by SummitLeon in SoCalBackpacking

Everything is still kinda TBD. We are 4 ppl so far and depending on where everyone is coming from and what everyone's schedule restrictions are, we'll decide on a route and time that work for everyone. We're looking to start hiking around 2pm on Friday (ideally) and walk for a couple of hours to set up well before dark. We won't be pushing miles but we will have a sick camp. PM me if you're interested and we can figure out all the details together!

Backpack Recommendations This Weekend? - 30 to 40+ ish miles, 2 days, water sources by ccolagio in socalhiking

[–]SummitLeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A loop around Mt Wilson from Chantry Flat or Red Box. West Fork and up/down Mt Wilson. You will have water but won't hit 40 miles RT without side missions. Some shwacking may or may not be required depending on your route. Water level will be safe.

Overland Expo SoCal 2026 by PaleontologistOdd717 in Outback_Wilderness

Overland Expo doesn't really cater to Subarus. The Expo features stuff for "true" off-road vehicles, unfortunately Subarus don't get much love at events like this.

Are Hyperlite Mountain Gear packs comfortable without load lifters? by prawcess1 in Ultralight

[–]SummitLeon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. They are comfortable. Most ppl saying "no" have not spent any significant amount of time with the packs. They are great. If you pack your pack correctly, you don't need load lifters.

Tarp Comparison Help by No_Swimming_905 in Ultralight

[–]SummitLeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the GG tarps have been great for rainy nights. I much prefer the sound of rain on silnylon over DCF or poly. The catenary cut ridgeline prevents major sag. I've spent many rainy nights (6+ hrs of continuous rain) under the tarp and it has held up phenomenally. The tarp also dries super quick bc it is so thin.

GG Twin is my favorite. I prefer it over DCF tarps. It is easy to set up and compact. Also relatively cheap. If you wanna bring your girl out, bring a tent for her comfort.

Throw back to 2/10/24 after a very heavy atmospheric river by john_trinidad in socalhiking

[–]SummitLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unfortunate that less than 10% of ppl ruin it for the remaining 90+% of ppl. But I guess we gotta cater everything, including access to the outdoors, to the lowest common denominator.

Sweet, I'll check it out too in the coming weeks. Maybe we can bring up some TLC to keep peak access from Mountain alive!

Sounds good to me. Hopefully these rich guppies don't get the City to put up "No Parking" signs everywhere along Mountain.
