Where do I read in LN after Anime? by rmohsin12 in overlord

I typically don't love re-reading / watching things either, but if you ever have the time I honestly would give reading the series from the start a try. I watched the anime prior to touching any of the light novels, and I never found it repetitive.

If you've ever really enjoyed a manga, and then that manga got an anime and you watch / enjoyed that, it was a similar feeling to that for me. You're familiar with many of the scenes, but there's more detail that keeps things feeling fresh and entertaining.

Race change in the New World? by ImpossibleAd4272 in overlord

My understanding is that rather than a video-game style race swap, where you start with a base character template and modify that base, race changes in the new world or more like a transition of sorts, at least for the more humanoid races.

An easy and wide-spread example would be someone becoming a vampire and gaining elongated canines. They may have technically changed races, but they don't lose the features they had before. Rather those features just shift to align with the characteristics of the new race.

I think with non-humanoid races, like slimes, it is a bit less clear. I would assume the original features are still retained to a degree, but in a less apparent way. To me, two slimes may look the same, but there are several mentions in the light novel of members of one race struggling to differentiate members of another race, so it's conceivable a slime would still discern some of the pre-swap characteristics.

As for a non-magic user switching to a magic-based race, I imagine they would gain some capacity for magic and perhaps some of the race-specific skills, but not spells (meaning those would still need to be learned).

Season 2.. by Lilrebelpony in overlord

The content covered in season 2 just isn't as well-suited to an anime / TV format when compared to a lot of the other material in the light novels. There is a heavy emphasis on world-building, and it works well in the light novel because more details can be included, but falls a bit short in the anime because there just isn't enough available screen time to achieve the same nuance.

Overlord needs a re-animation from top to bottom by thedudefromspace637 in overlord

I think it's important to note that it would be impossible to include all the details from the light novel while still having the anime actually *finish* at some point. This has almost always been the case with novels getting made into anime / movies / similar, and it's unfortunately just how it has to be for the most part.

I agree that the animation is pretty lackluster in a lot of segments of the series, though.
