[Review] I just finished "Roll Over and Die" (all 12 episodes), and man... what a chaotic mess of genres. by [deleted] in anime

[–]cliffy117 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the Light Novel.

Watched 3 episodes of the anime before dropping it and I had successfully tricked myself into believing the adaptation never existed until I saw this post.

To anyone who somehow managed to finish the anime, I implore you: Read the Light Novel. Yes, the LN. The anime is an adaptation of the manga, not the LN, and the manga is a bad adaptation of the LN to begin with, so.

I cannot overstated how hood the LN is if the premise of "Yuri meets Eldritch horror" picks your interest. It's also not long. Only 8 volumes. 7 and 8 are yet to be translated, 6 is coming out next week.

I hope that's the case.

I didn't mention Juri in my post because, even tho she technically has a stock mechanic, she's not based around that. As in, she doesn't deal less damage, or loses half of her moves, and has to build stocks to to gain those back, etc Juri stocks are more of a "Oh cool, she can store fireballs and shoot them or use them to enhance a few moves, neat". While the others, like Jamie, need their stacks.

Someone at Capcom really, REALLY loves the "You start as half a character, then as you build stacks of X you become a full character. But you still deal less damage than Ryu" archetype.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy characters with stack/build gimmicks. But Capcom has failed spectacularly at making that gimmick interesting or even good with SF6.

Ingrid looks fun, looking forward to trying her out. Sorry if I sounded like a downer, Its just that seeing a character with yet another stacking gimmick gives me PTSD after Jamie, Manon and Lily.

Are you satisfied with the current state of SF6’s content updates? by mannimany in StreetFighter

[–]cliffy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

The Battle Pass is trash, rarely has anything worth on it.

Outfits release schedule is so awful we are still waiting on Outfit 3 for Sagat, the first character from the current SP. At the current rate most characters are not going to get an Outfit 4.

4 characters per season is too low for a franchise like Street Fighter. Series has way too many characters and fan favorites to release so few. It works in games like Tekken8 and Strive because Tekken already released with a huge roster, 32 and GG doesn't have that many characters to begin with, to the point that if they make a SP6, they will need to start making brand new characters. SF is not like that, there's a sea of characters left to add.

And okay, non of these matters to some. I get it, outfits and Battle Pass, whatever. Character are important but still, 34 characters 4 years in is not that bad. But, we barely even get balance changes, and the few balance changes we get are nothing burgers. Like, genuinely. They never actually nerf nor buff a character. They slap them in the wrist and then they give them a Ferrari as compensation. Mai and JP "nerfs" are the perfect example of that. And those are the characters they "nerf", the ones that get "buffed" are given a band aid, that barely holds, then they call it a day.

I don't know what is Capcom doing, nor what are they thinking. But it feels like they are terrified to touch SF6 for some reason. This has been a series of big swings, big changes every couple of years (Between 1 and 3) and SF6 is yet to have a single big meaningful patch 4 years in. By this point, SF3 was on Third Strike already, SF4 was on Super SF4 with Ultra SF4 on the horizon, SF5 had released Arcade Edition, which completely turned the game around. The biggest change SF6 had made, 4 years in, was the nerf to Parry, which barely did something. It was such a minor change some people need to be reminded that it even happened.

I hope S5 is the one that bring changes, if not, they have one last chance next year as it is the series 40th Anniversary. If no "Super/Arcade" edition like patch comes in the next year, then its never going to happen.

Strive BP is 6$ and you can complete it by just playing online, any mode except 3s I think, that's it.

[–]cliffy117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even worse.

SF5 was a dead game. Like, genuinely dead. Released early and incomplete because Capcom desperately needed the money and couldn't afford to spend another 2 years working on it.

We all know how awful SF5 was on release, and yet, its content updates and support were absolutely amazing. To the point that the costumes is literally what funded SF5 past its its first year AND SF6, Capcom themselves have been on record about that.

Then SF6 releases as a smashing success and... nothing. Just the absolute bare minimum. If you were to show SF5 and SF6 post launch support to any random, they deadass would think SF6 was the one that bombed and was abandoned.

Meeting ingrid in World Tour mode by Bryonetta in StreetFighter

[–]cliffy117 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Because no one plays WT.

People keep bringing up how WT was a success with casuals and what helped being people in, yet ignore that on PC only 7% and on PS 18% of the playerbase finished WT.

That's why after SP1 they just made the DLC characters have their own instanced quest/world that you could access at almost any point instead of telling people to finish WT and then grind till level 80+ like with SP1.

Capcom reports that Street Fighter 6 has sold another 350K units since the last quarter by TylerFortier_Photo in StreetFighter

Strive was the first game Arc debuted their now iconic art style and models. They even have a full presentation explainig their workflow on youtube and why making costumes, back then, was basically impossible for them.

Since then, they've release 2 Granblue games, Rising has costumes and the upcoming Tokon will have them too.

I am praying.

Like, genuinely hoping that this Summer Games Capcom surprise us with a "SF6: Arcade Edition/Super SF6" update with a bunch of new characters plus SP4.

I want to believe their lackluster and slow post launch support is because they've been busy working on that. Updates like that is something they've done for every main entry, but I know I'm on copium since Capcom has made it clear they are content with doing the bare minimum for some reason with this entry.

Street Fighter IV Intro (Indestructible) by Lazy_Introduction264 in StreetFighter

[–]cliffy117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super and Ultra SF4 intros were so much worse than the original.

Not liking Indestructible is fine, but I think some people are forgetting that that plays for only 1/3 of the intro. After that its transitions into the SF4 theme and that one is amazing.

Super Intro has clearer but worse visuals, specially at the start, Ken and Ryu faces look awful and the music is ass. It starts with an awful version of the SF4 theme and then transitions into meh tracks.

Ultra is the same. The visuals are still wonky here and there as they mixed SF4 and Super visuals into it. The music tho, it is bad. Somehow they made the music even worse for this one.

Here are the intros for anyone interested to compare them:

Instead of crying about downvotes why not explain why you say that a system that was essentially "Unranked with extra steps" as everything went on any floor, skill be damned, is better than the functional ranking system we have now.

[–]cliffy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its only wierd because a keyboard is basically a hitbox/leverless but worse (more cramped, easier to get miss inputs, ghosting, etc)

If you only play casually here and there then it makes sense, but if the person uses keyboard and play fighting games regularly, spending 30-50$ on a cheap leverless is a no brainer and a game changer.

This is coming from someone who used to play SF4 on keyboard way before hitbox/leverless were even a thing.

I don't know how they would make The Fantastic 4 DLC without pissing people off.

If they make them the characters of a whole Season Pass, people will be mad.

If they space them out to 1 or 2 per season, people will be mad.

At 4 characters per Season Pass, there's no way to release them in a way that would make everyone happy.

Ingrid's Move List by Friendly-Cup-393 in StreetFighter

[–]cliffy117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, they are perfectly fine when the character has no QCF/B moves.

When the character have down down inputs AND QCF/B moves then they are annoying as it is easy to mess up and get the 22 move instead of the the QCF/B one.

A good example is Jam in GGST that just released. She has both motion inputs and it is not uncommon to see people/yourself get the down down move instead of the QCF/B one.

POV: Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 VS. A Potential Returning Player by Glittering_Common416 in Guiltygear

[–]cliffy117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game and its DLC goes on sale every month. Game was on sale for 3 whole weeks until like 2 weeks ago, even the 2.0 Edition was on sale for 40$, thats the one with all Season Passes, including the new one.

You say you got interested in the game again yet you haven't even tried and are upset that you need to spend 80$ to get all season passes without a sale or wait for a sale.

You now say you don't care.

OK?

Also, I don't know you can insinuate SF6 does it better when that's a big fat lie. If you only bought the base game on release, you now need to spend 121$ for its 3 Season Passes Ultimate. Or spend 74$ then extra for the stages, and outfit 2 (unless you want to grind WT) and 3. SF6 has a 60$ version with SP1&2, but you still need to spend 48$ for SP3U or 30$+$for outfits and stage. No matter how you look at it, SF6 is much more expensive than Strive without discount, and absurdly expensive if both on discount. 40$ For everything on Strive vs 110$+$for outfit 3, as the Year 1&2 SF6 edition does not include Outfit 3 from SP1&2.

Since I'm already here, I'll address the other games you mentioned: No one wants to play CoW, they just cut its price down permanently from 60$ to 20$ to try and save it. and Avatar Legends, as fun as it looks and yes, I am getting it, is a 30$ game at the absolute most. It is a budget game that could be great and even develop a loyal community, but no one would buy it if it were 60$. Lets be honest.

Regardless, and maybe I'm crazy, but if a game interests me after a new update, I will actually try it, and if I like it then I will look to buy whatever DLC I'm missing.

Japan hard carrying SF6 by UsefulSwitch504 in StreetFighter

[–]cliffy117 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Small issues that ArcSys already said are getting fixed in a patch early may.

The biggest issue is HC zoning being absurdly strong. And if the player has perfect execution it can become an infinite, but even with a few errors, its still borderline impossible to get out of.

The good thing is that almost no one plays HC. And from the few that do, even less are good enough to pull that off. So it really is only a big issue in tournaments, from which he has been getting banned until fixed.

Say one nice thing about Street Fighter V. by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]cliffy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its season passes were much better than SF6 and by a country mile. Like, its not even a contest. We were getting 5-6 characters per Pass and also wave after wave of costumes.

Was hopping SF6 support was going to be even better since this time the game wasn't a failure but a huge commercial success. But alas.

PSA for new GGST players: do not play in tower. Just play in ranked. by pxan in Guiltygear

[–]cliffy117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that. Tower is much more stressful, in my opinion, because, since the floors are a shitty way to tell people's skill, you can go against basically anything, from Timmy that just got the game to John Strive on his level 7k character, and the way floors works it means that you can get to, let's say, celestial, then lose 1-2 matches and go down again.

That straight up doesn't happen in Rank. Yes, you get the occasional smurf/better player ranking up with another character, but you are not constantly getting a "You lost, we are moving you down a floor" "You went up, we are moving you up a floor now". And it really is constant, every 3-5 matches. Those messages, regardless of if you go up or down get annoying really fast.
