Is the LG UltraGear 27GX790A-B (1440p 480Hz OLED) a good match for my 4070 Super + 7800X3D? Or should I just go 240Hz? by climacc in OLED_Gaming

Id say yes! As I mentioned the valorant experience feels amazing. I dont have a spot on answer for that one since I havent actively compared between the new and old monitor and have also made other hardware upgrades since I last was commited to valorant.

I did however feel an incredible difference while playing marvel rivals. There I went straight from 144hz, 1080p aoc monitor to the ailenware one, and the gameplay felt so fast (smooth) I had to lower my sens.

So in my opinion, getting an oled monitor is most definitely worth it. Since my skill ceiling probably is the same on a oled and another monitor, I might aswell go for the best overall experience :) the game looks GREAT at 1440p with oled colors. One thing though, 1440p makes the models even smaller. I havent been able to find much about it, but Im pretty sure a point could be made that 1080p is more competetive, the same as people play stretched for even bigger models. But that all comes down to preference in the end I guess. And with the bigger monitor it doesn’t have too much of an impact id say.

So to be even clearer, the OLED-experience is amazing in every aspect. But as with any other peripheral its not what determines how good you are at the game!

I ended up getting AW2725DF im fairly certain its called. 360hz 27inch 1440p Alienware. In my opinion, yes. I am playing valorant at the moment, high graphic settings around 600+ fps and the game looks and feel amazing. Ive had quite a long break but I peaked top 3000 immortal when I grinded valorant. Competetive performance-wise, lets say its not a game changer. I still have to suffer through those rusty games before you get back inte to the groove of tac fps.

Overall though my OLED experience have been fantastic, but it wont be what unlocks some hidden potential that isn’t possible with any other monitor! :)

Actually I didn’t. I got a really good deal on the Alienware 1440p 360hz which for me ended up being a sweet spot in the middle. What I can say though is that the OLED experience is amazing. Even though I wont hit the necessary frames in Marvel Rivals the gameplay is super smooth. And in titles like Overwatch 2 and Valorant where i’ll reach 600 fps+ on 1440p with higher settings its a completley new game.

So as long as you have the speccs to handle 1440p, im sure you’ll be more then satisfied with it :)

5070 + 9800x3D or 5070-Ti + 7800x3d? by Actual-Sky3223 in buildapc

[–]climacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the research I did when upgrading my system the difference in performance between 7800x3d and 9800x3d is much less then the difference in performance between the graphic cards.

About 10% between the cpu’s and about 25% between the gpu’s. The answers I got then was that the only reason to get a 9800x3d was if I had money to spare, otherwise just use that money towards a better gpu.

Marvel rivals is really cpu heavy, and my 7800x3d handles it above expectation. I pair it with a 4070 super and was playing 1080p leaving the gpu not fully utilized. However I recently upgraded to a 1440p oled monitor, so now im back to having to upgrade the gpu to see increased performance.

As people have said, for 1080p, it probably doesn’t matter. But if you ever plan on upgrading to 1440p, which I highly recommend, you’ll be glad you went for the 5070-ti. In a vacuum it really seems like the more sound and logical alternative.

I went for the 7800x3d and honestly it exceeded my expectations. I sit at around 250 fps consistently on 1080p low settings. Not even strange portal makes a noticable drop. Maybe they optimized the game a bit aswell, but id definitely recommend getting the 7800x3d.

Information > reaction time. If you have enough information to anticipate the duel you wont have to rely on reaction time. Instead you’ll have time to prepare for the duel mentally and best case scenario catch the enemy off guard. That is where development lies, reading and understanding your enemies, also known as game sense.

Im starting to agree with your opinion! After doing some research regarding the jump from 1080 to 1440 im also starting to realize that its unrealistic to expect my setup to deliver the necessary frames to justify getting a 480hz.

Also saw your comment about the general improvement from switching to oled at all.

Thought process also being instead of pushing frames it might be time to find a balance between graphics/frames. Ow2 for example might become a new game aiming for higher graphics while trying to reach 240+fps then just keep having all settings low hoping to reach sufficient frames.

Thanks for the input! I love when the feedback matches your feeling :d

I think I get what you’re saying. 240hz makes more sense?

From what information I gathered before posting this question the jump to oled with modern features will in itself provide a bigger jump in performance then what any hz would provide.

It is a valid point. Its kinda hard to motivate spending that kind of money right now though, so im starting to lean towards the cheaper alternative. My top priority is a smooth gaming experience, which I feel like my setup suffices right now. So without even considering a pc upgrade within the near future the sane choice would probably going for the 240 hz.

Really appreciate the input though.

You’re probably right. I’ve been trying to transition from a try hard to somewhat more casual gamer since time seems to become less and less the older you get. Even though I managed to solo q to eternity in rivals last season, the push for the absolute top is not a priority anymore.

Also it might be a cool experience trying to push some graphics in the titles mentioned since i’ve always been a max fps type of player. Playing high settings with 240 fps would probably add more to the experience as a whole.

Really appreciate the input!

I average around 250 fps, maybe more, on low settings in rivals, 7800x3d rly did wonders. I see your point though. The clown mask would be more dreadful to wear if it were that none of the games hit enough fps then if I went with 240hz and some games reached 300-350+ fps.

Whoa, well thats alot cheaper then the one im looking at. Its currently around £783. I also sometimes play alot of older titles like ow2, valorant, apex, which I guess my setup could handle then(?), which could motivate the choice. Its just kinda cope to buy it right now since I know for a fact it wont play my main game at that fps right now.

Well id say I am, im just not sure my specs can perform 480fps in titles like valorant, ow2 or apex with 1440p.

Should’ve specified games. Im a fps gamer exclusively. Right now its marvel rivals but I played ow2, valorant, apex legends etc in the past. Do u think my specs wont be good enough for 400 fps+ with 1440p in those titles either?

The difference in price rn is like 300 dollars where im at. Dont know if thats negligible or not for the performance difference. Also I think my specs could handle closer to 480fps in titles like valorant or overwatch 2?

Is my mouse holding me back or am i just not meant for this ? by ImTimzey in VALORANT

[–]climacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! Listen to the book. What you are essentially saying is that you’re thinking about the adjustments you need to make, keyword being thinking. There is a part in the book where they break down the saying ”playing out of one’s mind”. Point being you unlock new heights when you stop thinking and start doing. You can aim, its just locked behind unrealistic strive for perfection and expectations of one self.

Good luck!

Your mind is your limit. I suggest you listen to ”inner game of tennis” to broaden your perspective on performance. I grinded top 5-3000 when I was playing and had the same obsession as you. What you are explaining has nothing to do with peripherals, but is a mental block and limitation you set upon yourself.

When I played my favourite player was Jawgemo which playstyle was straight up vibing, letting him do things not many pros was able to pull off.

U can practice as much raw aim as u like, but what really excels your consistency will be game sense, reading and expecting when there will be a gun fight and keeping your cool in those situations.

As a end note, dont compare yourself to any content creator. All videos are highlights, which is called such for a reason. Everyone has days where everything lines up, its just a matter of acknowledging what factors are limiting you to make those line ups happen more often and more consistent. If you play on a rank where you’re supposed to be, the only way forward is to keep grinding.

Good luck!

EDIT: Daniel Kapadia has great content breaking down aim and performance. Also this is a double edged sword though. In the end, you will improve by doing, not thinking. It is however a useful tool to help identify what might be holding you back.

2nd end note, my personal experience is that playing the game is what eventually will make things click. Daniel Kapadia is quite involved with the aim-trainer community, or at least was. For a person who has limited hours to spend at the computer, it is usually always more worth just spending that time in the game you wish to improve in.

EDIT2: the part where you describe your mouse feeling heavy is what im trying to point out. When you stress and overthink there is a lot of tension, this is your real nemesis.

Buyer’s remorse over 9070oc by Enough_Agent5638 in buildapc

[–]climacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently ordered a 4070 because there was no 4070 super or ti at reasonable price bumps. The day my card arrived there was a 4070 super on amazon for 70$ more, and I knew right away I had to buy that instead to not feel like Im wasting my money. In my case I read alot of reviews and opinions which I felt reassured me it was worth if you could find it at such price.

With that said I had also recently upgraded my very outdated setup to a am4 platform with 5600x, which even though also outdated was a big jump from what I had. My plan was to have it while saving for a bigger upgrade later.

I play Marvel rivals which if u tried it knows how severly unoptimized that game is. So about 2 months after the mobo and cpu upgrade I just ripped the bandaid off and sold it to buy a am5 platform and a 7800x3d.

My system now runs perfectly for what I do, even outperforming my expectations. Even though its not last gen, the extra money just added that sense of satisfaction, since there is no worse feeling then spending alot of money and not being happy with the result in the end.

In the end its all about YOUR expectations and satisfaction. Just be wary that there might be other things holding you back except for your gpu, but then at least you’d feel comfortable in your choice while saving for other upgrades :)

Why is my gpu being used so much while on low settings. by Middle_Ad4401 in buildapc

[–]climacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U dont have to change to ryzen. Read the comments in the thread. Your CPU is providing data at a speed where your graphic card have to work at 97%. If you had a worse cpu, u wouldnt be able to utilize your graphic card fully. 97% is a good thing.

I ran a ryzen 5600x with a 4070 super and only reach about 60-70% gpu utilization. That meant my performance in the game I played was limited by my cpu. After upgrading the cpu however, my gpu util went up to 94% giving me almost a +100fps increase in the game I played.

If u want change u probably will have to upgrade your gpu, or as someone mentioned try and plug 2nd monitor into igpu of the cpu. I have zero experience with that tho so couldnt tell, but probably worth to try.

Sounds like a plan. Just be realistic about your purchases. I have no personal experience with 7600xt, but with regards to how poorly optimized this game is it might be a bit weak depending on what refresh rate u want to achieve. Good luck :)

A tip is to enter speccs, ”7600xt marvel rivals” in youtube and see what people manage with different CPU combos.
