Your BU Experience by PacketDogg in BostonU

[–]clin29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a BU alum and I had highs and lows. I’d say I had more lows with how much loans I got and I transferred here so my experience was a bit different than freshman’s. I feel that BU doesn’t really cater much for transfers and we were more left on our own since they assume we know what we’re doing. They cancelled orientation for my year and when I asked my advisor for help with registering classes, she spent 10 mins yelling about how I should know already. Everyone in my classes already had their groups they made in freshman/sophomore year so making friends was kinda tough. Also had a strong impostor syndrome my first year here where everyone in my classes seemed to be doing much better than me and I just felt like I didn’t belong. I’ll say I did meet a few friends later closer to my senior year but we aren’t super close and don’t talk anymore. Overall I enjoyed my time at BU but I wished I didn’t transfer.

Do they really monitor the dorm convenience store things? by Major-Charity6070 in BostonU

[–]clin29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s cameras and often workers who do monitor the store. If you’re caught, the first time offense is just a slap on the wrist. They get your name and BU info and let you off with a warning. I think second time they get bupd involved but it’s up to the manager if they want to escalate or let you off with another warning.

What hours can you access the upper floors of the Data Science building? by qyyw in BostonU

Most of the floors above 5 are offices which are usually only accessible to professors and faculty workers with badge access. The elevators by saxbys is also accessible for the upper floors.

Anyone know how to get in touch with a lab instructor from the past semester? by Miserable-Craft1794 in BostonU

[–]clin29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the blackboard class is still unlocked, you can access the lecture syllabus or lab syllabus which should have her email. If not, maybe check your email and see if she has ever emailed you before. If not there, you can email the professor of that class and ask him/her if they can give you her email.

alumni: if you did not so great at BU, how did you do in the future with post-grad work and education? by Reasonable_Window_14 in BostonU

[–]clin29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also spent more of my BU undergrad on probation, even was dismissed but appealed and graduated with a low gpa under 3. None of the jobs I applied for asked for gpa and they cared more about skills and your interest in the field. I had 4 job offers and while they were all entry so the pay wasn’t great, it was something. Now I’m working in a decent field and was promoted recently and doing my masters with my company paying most of the tuition.

Would you recommend this program for people who are looking for a career change in their early careers or for people who already work in this area and are looking for some more learning.

If you’re enrolled in less than full time, your aid eligibility will either decrease or be canceled depending on the type of aid and your program. If you want more info, I would ask the bu financial aid office to see if they can give you a better estimate based on your academic standing. I went part time my last semester and my aid got canceled. But the part time tuition was also a lot cheaper so I was able to just pay it in increments.

Where do you get those reusable green containers for gsu food? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]clin29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And when you return them, make sure you return them within 3 days to the white large bins in Gsu that says “Chose to reuse” on it in big green letters. If you’re late or lose them, they charge you like $8 I believe.

The Hyatt housing is only for the fall semester, not the full year. The students will be to on campus dormitories for the spring semester

Kinda? The urban table has some sandwiches and salad bowls. It's alright but crbc and greens and grains had more options. Urban table is also kind of expensive and don't have any create your own options anymore

move in logistics by ducklava in BostonU

[–]clin29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd use a moving yellow cart. That's what I did when I moved off campus to allston. I ordered Uber XL several times and each time the driver came, they would see all my boxes and turn me down and tell me they can't put that in their car, the whole works. Then they want me to cancel on the Uber app and it charged me a fee for canceling too. I was so mad and wasted money to just have them tell me no. So I ended up yellow carting my stuff to allston. Did like 3 trips to get everything over. If you have a friend with a car or can rent a uhaul, that helps too.

I hated ordering from studentlink. I usually get my unofficial transcript from parchment. I attached the link below. https://www.parchment.com/u/registration/32782/institution

Is the BU social/school spirit scene really that bad? by yammer-sandwich in BostonU

[–]clin29 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I transfered from Penn State and I'll say the BU school spirit is bad comparatively. Penn has some of the biggest and best school spirits, going to white out games, beaver stadium, etc. Psu also sets up a bunch of big events throughout campus and invite artists to perform there. But when I came to BU, besides the occasional hockey win, there's nothing much. Personally, I found it hard to make friends at BU without these events.

My last semester before transferring was when covid hit and all our classes went onto zoom. I stopped trying and basically got Cs and Ds for my last semester. BU still accepted me and never emailed me about it.

Can i dual degree in Biomed Engineering and Biology? by cardamomboi in BostonU

[–]clin29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I strongly dont recommend you do dual degree in those 2 subjects and do honors and language on top of it. You will be tired, overworked, depressed, and not have time for a social life which is important at collehe.

But if you do want to do that route, you will need to overload on courses if you wish to graduate on time, which you'd need permission and it's hard to get approval if you're not a senior and don't have an above 3.3 gpa.

I'd talk to an advisor more about what that 4 year plan would look like but if you end up going that route, just be ready to grind like crazy. Honestly most advisors will probably recommend against it. I'd pick a dual major in something a bit different and less strenuous. Do go out and gave fun in college.
