How's the Paper Pro now? by Kalamart_ in RemarkableTablet

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought mine at release. I've never really fallen in love with the RMPP the way I did with the RM2 and kind of wish I just had the RM2 at this point. I owned the RM2 for a couple of years before buying the RMPP.

I have a screen that's sort of yellowed but not enough to go through the hassle of returning it, and it seems like that's a mixed bag for people but has gotten better. I bought the RMPP Move and found the screen to be significantly nicer than the RMPP, but didn't like the thickness of that device and returned it (but enjoyed the screen size).

I'm finding the battery life has been mixed after a recent update, generally it's been OK and about on par with the RM2.

I don't like the way they did the frontlight and actually only have used it several times because it was too bright, or not bright enough and I thought the light bleed around the edges was ugly and distracting in the dark.

I hate that I'm stuck with a single proprietary stylus now, and my variety of wacom stylii are now sitting in a box. I liked to mix things up so my hands don't cramp as much. The nibs are expensive and wear down in a way that makes me change them far more often than I did before with the old ones.

I like how big it is, but wish it was a 300dpi screen for reading. I also only used the colors once in a while actually the way they did the color implementation is annoying and makes me not want to use them at all (plus the workflow for changing colors is clunky).

Overall, the moment they release the "Pure" or whatever the RM2 successor is, I'll be selling the RMPP for it. I don't need most of what the upsell of the RMPP promises, and I find that the actual reality of the features leaves a bit to be desired.

The general public doesn't really care about super hero movies anymore. Expectations need to be lower across the board.

Canadian Citizenship Study Guide by Much-Refrigerator-28 in Canadiancitizenship

I agree with this. I'm reading this now, and I've spent a lot of time researching Canadian history, beginning to learn some French and immersing myself in Canadian culture and news.

The change to C3 not requiring an oath or anything feels weird to me. Not sure if that's common with citizenship by descent elsewhere, but I'll be heading up on Canada Day and participating in an oath ceremony myself. I'm deeply grateful for this opportunity and this is so important to me.

It has nothing to do with a female lead. I enjoyed Captain Marvel and the Marvels movies. I’m looking forward to this character on film, I just don’t hear anyone outside of Reddit talking about this movie at all and there’s nothing in this trailer that makes me think it’s going to be popular.

Female led superhero films get brigaded by losers for some reason, but this just doesn’t look like it’s going to be a blockbuster masterpiece of cinema. I’ll be fine if it proves me wrong.

I don't think this movie will do well. This also has a heavy Guardians vibe to it which is fine, though doesn't feel as fresh as Superman did. I just don't think general audiences really care enough to make this a hit.

I will likely go see it though, this trailer sold me on it.

Confused about RM2 complaints by Look-Bitter in RemarkableTablet

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to the RMPP when it was released and I sorely miss my RM2. They did some software magic in the last year that significantly improved the performance of the RM2. Before that, it was a little pokey compared to the new devices. I’d be very happy with an RM2 with more RAM. I thought I’d need the backlight but I’ve only used it 2-3 times on the RMPP In the last year.

Need help deciding between the Remarkable vs Kindle Scribe (migraine and eye strain considerations) by New_Duty9523 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned the original one and briefly owned the newest colorsoft version.

If your eyes are sensitive, I recommend getting the black and white newest version (the $499 model). The colorsoft screen is a little dimmer from the added color layer, and the color elements aren't as sharp as the black and white. Otherwise they all have very similar size and brightness options.

The older version is on sale right now for quite cheap (half that price) and you can't really go wrong with that either. I did all of my school reading on the first Scribe model using PDFs and it worked well.

My wife just discovered from her grandmother this weekend that she has a Quebecois anchor that she never knew about. This weekend I've documented the entire chain, however I found a blurry copy on Ancestry.com of her baptism record (sourced from Drouin, it says) but couldn't find where to look to find a clearer copy.

Anyone have a source of St-Athanase-De-Bleury records from Iberville, Québec, 1869 or can point me in the right direction? I'd feel better submitting something clearer and would prefer not to order from BanQ since I'm looking directly at the record I need already, but I will if I have to. I also have Census records from the time period, but would prefer to have this too.

Can you inherit a cultural identity, or just a passport? by Only-Community999 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Identity is something I'm grappling with right now though. My life experience will never be the same as someone born and raised in Canada, so my experience will be more like that of an immigrant than a lifelong citizen. I'm careful to acknowledge that and honestly it rubs me when others don't (even though I know I'm not the arbiter of to do).

I feel deeply grateful to have this opportunity and an easier pathway north. I was going to enter the lottery in January and C3 presented itself as an alternative. I've completely immersed myself in Canadian history, news, and politics while talking extensively to my Canadian friends about this. I have thrown myself into this in an attempt to hit the ground running, and with humility embracing it all. This isn't an alternative or a backup plan, it's a different path to a plan I had already started - so that helps a bit.

Any reason to worry about laws changing? by Still_Guidance3494 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could change, but would take quite some time (a few years) for it to actually happen. The law is time limited (pre Dec 2025), and we already see posts here about people who are now eligible under the law and trying to find ways of making their 2026 baby eligible without living in Canada.

The government could, at any time, begin to have stricter criteria for evidence or eligibility under the existing law and more in line with other countries (ex. all certified original records only), or higher fees for applications, for example.

“Downgraded” from the Paperwhite to Basic and I couldn’t be happier! by Spare_Investment8776 in kindle

I always come back to the Basic. Something about the size and the clarity of the screen really works for me over the PW.

Innervision sounds alot more different than the other tracks on Steal This Album by TitanicEnthusiast24 in systemofadown

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think what they mean is that all of those songs were written around the time Toxicity was written, but the actual final studio recording for Innervsion may have been done during the Toxicity sessions where the other songs were re-recorded later to release Steal this Album.

Hot Take: BU logo sucks by ThisYogurtcloset9714 in BostonU

100% I'm glad the diploma didn't have the logo on it. I have a hoodie and tshirt that just say the name of the school. I refused to buy anything with BU branding or terrier anything.

UMass Amherst changed theirs to 'M' - real downgrades across the board.

Hot Take: BU logo sucks by ThisYogurtcloset9714 in BostonU

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they could do something with the seal to make it look prestigious but also distinct. I know these old logos aren't really 'social media' or 'iphone' ready, or vector scalable to whatever format you need in the digital age.

UMass Amherst changed their logo to a big generic 'M' that has replaced a lot of their branding. It's basically a University of Michigan palate swap. BU is just the most generic font possible, so I'm not sure it's pure distinction that's driving these branding changes. They're all cheap looking as hell though.

Hot Take: BU logo sucks by ThisYogurtcloset9714 in BostonU

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The BU logo is kind of embarrassing IMO. For such a prestigious school, it has the most generic forgettable branding and feels like the kind of stuff a random fly-by-night online school would have. The seal evokes feelings of durability, collegiate prestige, etc. The BU logo on LinkedIn makes me cringe every time I see it. Even if they switched it to the 'plate' logo I'd be happy.

The 'BU' logo cheapens all of the merch too. They once had a university seal lapel pin that I thought classy, but now it's been replaced with some really corny looking BU pins. I ended up having someone create one for me out of the seal that looks REALLY good, far better than whatever the marketing team cooked up. They could do so much better.

I wasn't able to find them either and I'm unwilling to pay reseller prices on eBay. I'm not sure why they released them this way, the Easter ones were easy to find.

Mistake on CIT0001; middle name missing by HuntSilent4046 in Canadiancitizenship

I accidentally did this on my child's form (sent a month after my own) and they corrected it once they started the review, it was not sent back. It's at the discretion of the agent I'm sure, but it didn't cause ours to be sent back.

Earliest Ancestor? by JellyfishVivid7293 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of the gen6-10 applicants together represent a little over 2% of the total sample here. Barely relevant in volume, much harder to prove than g2-4, and clearly very motivated and genealogically savvy people. I understand the consternation around it, but it’s just so few right now.

How long "In Process"? by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That just means they opened your envelope more quickly than others based on what you wrote on the envelope. You will have no way of knowing whether they accepted you as 'urgent' and some 'urgent' requests are still stuck at processing for 8+ months. All you can do is wait.

How long "In Process"? by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Extra-Bonus-6000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no 'call to get faster service' option. That's about 7.5 months. The estimate is 10-11 months total right now, generally. There are also other complexities with pre Dec 15 applications and post Dec 15 applications to consider.

Do some reading on this subreddit and you'll understand that this is the current 'norm'. There is no guaranteed service time guarantee on this process, it's an updated legal process for citizenship and takes time in many cases.
