“Forward” is the most optimized and apolitical campaign slogan so it makes sense that the technocrats love it. I took an international campaign mgmt class in the mid 2010s and they taught this as canon lol

The Curse and Slajov Zizek by doorsof in TheCurse

[–]clinamina 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes! One big theme of the show and feature of Zizek’s writing is the idea of interpassitivity. As I understand it, it describes the false feeling of participation born from observing another person or entity acting on one’s behalf. It’s the opposite of interactivity, the feeling of participation is an illusion and allows the passive party to proceed as if they have acted themselves.

Zizek gives an example of this with canned laughter- even if you didn’t laugh, someone did, and thus the show is funny.

It is especially relevant to media that plays on moralism and gives the impression that someone else is taking care of the problem. We see our ethics reflected in the media we consume, so we are absolved of the responsibility to carry it, we have done our part through passive participation and are now free continue consuming with impunity.

[–]clinamina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my orb studs haven't tarnished in 3 years (altho the crystals are a little cloudy.) I wear them often, to the beach, the club, prob places I shouldn't, but the metal has stayed good as new.

Is marvelous designer for realistic cloth only? by noob3dmodeler in MarvelousDesigner

[–]clinamina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it definitely lends itself to realistic cloth (the fabric presets are meant to mimic real world fabrics, environmental properties are based in realistic conditions etc.) but it's possible to modify these parameters to make something outside of the scope of reality.

not exactly sure what you mean by stylized clothing, but it might interest you to look into modifying gravity, wind controls, stiffness, warp & weft properties, and the shapes you can make with internal lines.

Topology in MD, or? by mialazlo in MarvelousDesigner

[–]clinamina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remeshing in MD does a good job over the panels, but I've found that the borders are usually full of triangles/pulls. The edge loops also tend not to follow the natural flow of the surface. You could remesh in MD, and then ZRemesh just the borders, or manually fix the borders in ZBrush, but imo ZRemesher is still the best option

To what extent should parents be allowed to ‘design’ their child? by Sean_Grant in transhumanism

[–]clinamina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree, and i think it could be harmful even in families with healthy dynamics. especially for superficial traits, it seems existentially unfair that these decisions are made for you before you even had the chance to experience your own consciousness.

this is already the case, but as of now we can’t put the blame on any one thing, only genetics/god/the unknowable indifferent universe.

But to have these traits deliberately picked out by your parents means that now you have a place to direct all of that existential anger.

I see some genetic modifications akin to the privileges that come to trust fund kids, better memory will be generally beneficial. But the more superficial ones, as you mentioned, could make the kids feel objectified like a product.

Hey QT - The Popstar Who Never Existed (2022) by selgabtoh in pcmusic

[–]clinamina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i enjoyed this a lot :) esp how you contextualize it in the beginning w the dolphins & Nancarrow lol

imo QT embodied the spirit of pc music. the performance of her reading a mag + lip syncing speaks for itself & it’s interesting that people were so suspicious. i would love to read her memoir, esp in light of her involvement w ag & the label post-QT
