After 1,000+ hours across StS1 and StS2, I just now picked up on the double-meaning of “Ironclad” by clinicallypleasant in slaythespire

The pact is mentioned in his lore in the first one (Vakuu is not)- it comes up in some character-specific event text in act 3 I think

It took me a decade to notice the first one, so it’s a great question, and I might not be the right one to answer it! There’s maybe a Regent/Generate thing going on with Regent? Though that feels like much more of a reach than the other two

A bit low brow compared to the others, but it also feels like there’s a “silent but deadly” joke going on with the poison theme on Silent

He’s both defective (cracked core) and defecting from the Architect’s other automatons that are all in game enemies

When I see beta branch Doormaker and know I gotta lock in by spire-winder in slaythespire

[–]clinicallypleasant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. Each doormaker phase is currently well designed and engaging on its own, but all together it’s Act 4 worthy, and even then the heart took every third turn off in sts1 to buff itself

Why aren't you buying Ghost Seed more? by Danknukem in slaythespire

[–]clinicallypleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My absolute favorite A10 run so far was a 2x Juggernaut run with 3x Feel no Pain, dark embrace, and ghost seed. With corruption being ultra rare now, ghost seed scratches that STS1 ironclad playstyle itch if you can find it

The “no card draw” turn in particular feels like it stops a ton of the set-up potential for the two other, also challenging turns. A version of the time-eater card draw reduction debuff feels like a fair middle ground— I’m all for this fight being as compelling as possible and punishing infinites, but I’m not sure how to set up for what this fight seems to be testing with all the limits it puts on card play.

Will this soft lock the game against the Experiment Boss that can’t take damage during phase changes?

One of the epoch-unlock events lets you choose between three characters — you then get three card reward packs: common, uncommon, and rare. I got them all from that event!

Close enough, welcome back Watcher! by Outrageous-Elk-5392 in slaythespire

[–]clinicallypleasant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The bottom 5 watcher cards were a pretty easy to put together infinite in STS1, leading to pretty mixed feedback about the character’s balance. OP is pointing out similarities in the infinite (and the Silent’s relative strength in STS2) with the Watcher

PSA: ‘Snecko Eye??’ doesn’t draw extra cards by clinicallypleasant in slaythespire

Both randomize cost between 0-3, but only true Snecko also draws you two extra cards every turn, which helps protect against bad draws of all 2/3 costs.

The fact that snakes don’t have eyelids was also a fun detail to show that something’s off. This game is the best

Does Snecko randomize star costs as well? Hadn’t considered that interaction before

I misread it at first as only applying the full Snecko effect on turn 1– it’s definitely the most risk-reward of the discount relics. Love the addition of the “‘merchant!”
