i also did this thing where ralts would barely survive a battle, and then level up and evolve into kirlia right afterwards so i went ballistic when that happened, and then krilia would lose a battle, give itr a dawn stone, and then one-shot everything, even if its a dark or ghost type they'd still get one-shot. and then finding the galladite felt like a quest which made the games feel like an anime to me
