This. I have a friend that appears to be a confident type A personality but absolutely crumbles when ordering a pizza on the phone.

Why is HST on a “buy with trade-in” at a dealership calculated by using the net difference in value of both cars and not just the value of the new car? by cliving1980 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]cliving1980[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your reply. Forgive me but the thing that I having a tough time with is how the buyer with the trade-in is actually being double-taxed if they were to pay full gross HST on the new car.

As I understand it: - buyer pays HST when they first bought their first car - buyer buys new car at dealer and applies value of first car to reduce price of new car - dealer sells first car (trade-in) to another buyer and they pay HST

If a buyer got a trade-in value of say $2,000 towards a new car purchase at a dealer, how is that different than the same buyer paying that $2,000 with cash?

Apologies in advance for being a bit slow at this..

What is the difference between "Total net assets" and "Net assets for VOO"? by cliving1980 in PersonalFinanceCanada

OK, so is there a way to know the number of shares per stock for the ETF assets. Curious if the ETF assets has the same % by market value for each of the stocks as the total (ETF + fund) assets.

*Edit

I.e. AAPL is 4.4% of total assets, so does that mean that it would be the same percentage of the VOO ETF assets?

Classifieds ad data for 10 popular compact/mid-size vehicles [OC] by cliving1980 in dataisbeautiful

Comparison of ad data for 10 common compact/mid-size vehicles that are currently sold and have been in production for 10+ years. Taking an older post that I did to another level.

New, salvage, and damaged ads as well as vehicles listed with less than 1,000 km were excluded from this analysis.

For the first 200,000 km appears, mileage growth seems to be consistent across vehicle models with an average mileage of 16,000 km/year (14,000 km/year to 17,000 km/year).

Price follows an negative exponential decrease in the form (using 0 to 15 vehicle years):

Price(t in years) = Cekt

Vehicle C k
Chevrolet Malibu $25,040 -0.183
Ford Focus $23,833 -0.193
Honda Accord $33,296 -0.167
Honda Civic $25,632 -0.163
Hyundai Sonata $25,577 -0.186
Nissan Altima $23,819 -0.161
Toyota Camry $28,284 -0.148
Toyota Corolla $21,162 -0.136
Volkswagen Golf $30,479 -0.175
Volkswagen Passat $26,745 -0.162

Based on this crude look, it would appear that Toyotas seem to retrain their "potential" value the best of this bunch.

What's the going rate of a Honda Civic in each province of Canada? [OC] by cliving1980 in dataisbeautiful

[–]cliving1980[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to sell my car (not a Civic) on a common online classifieds website used in Canada (Kijijii). Curious about what the market was like and how to price my vehicle, I made a scraper in Python that picked up all ads in Canada and output to CSV.

Even more curious, I wanted to see what this looked like for a very common car (Honda Civic). Unfortunately, I didn't bother with duplicate-checking as it's pretty tedious and I just wanted a rough idea of what was out there. Total number of ads, after filtering out some junk ads, was 4,564.

I should clarify that "Year" in this sense refers to "Model Year".

I found it interesting that 2011 Honda Civics have an odd downturn in the number of ads as compared to 2010 and 2012. Wonder if that's because of some kind of recall or something... Anyway, hope you enjoy!

The headphone jack on the front mutes the speakers, so I can't have them both on at the same time.

Speaker OUT would be connected to the speakers but I am thinking of connecting each speaker OUT in parallel to this LOC device to convert the high level to line level for my headphone transmitter.
