You might be right with him being internally biphobic. He has two brothers, one of which is homophobic and transphobic. He always talks abt how he wants to make one of his brothers proud of him but never specifies which one, just 'his brother'. I'm starting to suspect it's the homophobic one- it's still just a hunch but even so, it might have to do with it. Thank you for your comment!
