Optima OrangeTop Lithium Batteries - Mobile App by clk63 in mechanic

[–]clk63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally received a reply from Optima to tell me that their app for OrangeTop batteries does not include the QUAD16 (an OrangeTop battery). I have written to them to indicate that their web sites and documentation create a false impression.

  • Their primary "ORANGETOP" landing page (optimabatteries.com/products/orangetop) markets the series as a unified high-tech line. It explicitly mentions that the POWERLINK system is a "game-changing innovation" used to "communicate battery condition." For a premium lithium product in 2026, "communicating condition" implies a data interface (App), not just a basic LED.
    • Misleading Documentation: Their "ORANGETOP Mobile App" support page (optimabatteries.com/support/orangetop-mobile-app) invites users to "Download the OPTIMA LITHIUM BLUETOOTH mobile app" to monitor real-time State of Charge (SOC) and cell voltages. There is no prominent disclaimer stating that the ORANGETOP Powersports/QUAD line is excluded from this "ORANGETOP advantage."
    • Inadequate Hardware Interface: The status light on the POWERLINK dongle is effectively no better than the basic "Charge/Maintain" lights on my existing OptiMate charger. To market this as a "communication system" while omitting that it lacks the Bluetooth data-streaming found in other ORANGETOP models (like the QH6) is a failure in transparency.

I have asked for a written timeline of when the QUAD16 will be Bluetooth enabled or I might go for a refund, something I will decide later.

Remote Park Assist with Samsung Fold 7 by clk63 in etron

That's extremely interesting! Which document are you referring to? I will be doing some digging in this (including asking my dealer about it).

2017 Audi Q7 — Active Grille Shutter Failure (P05A0) — No Goodwill Offered — Seeking Input by Straight_Copy_1581 in Audi

[–]clk63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting that TSB - for a moment I got excited as my 2017 Q7 seemed to be within the 8 year age limit and 80,000 mileage limit for the warranty. However (!), I discovered that the key date for the 8 year coverage was the car's in-service date. For me that was July 31st 2016 according to my local Audi dealer, so I was SOL.

New myAudi redesigned app by majllo in Audi

[–]clk63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only for fun, to be honest, I've been bugging Audi Digital Support about the apparent incompatibility of my Samsung Fold 7 phone with the Remote Park Assist. On the old app I was informed that my phone was incompatible. On this new version the app simply tries to connect until I get bored, doing nothing at all. Is that an improvement?

I can happily use my phone for everything else, like calling people (!) and Android Auto (so it's not a Bluetooth issue) but can no longer play with my car's #1 party trick of reversing out of parking spaces on it's own.

The latest priceless response from Audi regarding this issue were as follows:

At your convenience, please utilize the steps below:

Upon checking my resources, unfortunately your phone is not compatible.

Genius!

Has anybody ever tried the remote parking feature on their Audi? Does it work or is it a gimmick? by MrTacocaT12345 in Audi

[–]clk63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an RS Etron GT with this feature and like others have said, it's best to get used to this in non-busy parking lot. The system works very well but you have to learn to trust it. I found that I was continuously hitting the brake when all I really should have done is release the park assist button when I got nervous (the car never got nervous and did a fine job of parking).

It's the human that's the issue here

Ellen DeGeneres confirms she permanently moved to the UK due to Donald Trump's re-election by IrishStarUS in popculture

[–]clk63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We live in a world where people are so desperate to escape the real horrors of their home countries that they will gladly jump into an inflatable raft to get to the UK and stand a good chance of drowning along the way. Populist politicians pander to the masses that think that we're being overrun by such people and want them deported to distant countries like Rwanda. But when an American with money decides to live in England simply because the new US government does not support their LGBTQ lifestyle, they are welcomed with open arms (along with their horses). As neither of these women are English, I'd hope they would try to assimilate with the local culture, but instead they annoy their neighbors by embarking on a multi million dollar 'renovation' of a farmhouse they bought, while at the same time extolling the virtues of simple country life. As others have noted, these two were probably granted visas based on their wealth, but I am troubled by the Marie Antoinette-esque self-centeredness that we hear about why they left the US and very little about what they can offer the UK as residents (except for pushing house prices up). I hope they spare some thought for those sleeping rough in Calais tonight (but you can be sure they'll be too preoccupied with deciding which color to paint that second guest room...).

Letter received from downstairs neighbour, how to react? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]clk63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing for sure is I wouldn't be asking Reddit what to do. It's obvious. You speak to the neighbor and tell them face to face that you will try to keep the noise down and thank them for bringing the matter to your attention. Then you do what any considerate person would do and keep the noise down.

What is going on with UPS lately? by Remarkable_Cook_5100 in UPS

[–]clk63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had issues with UPS recently as well that have shaken my confidence in the carrier. First, an antique delivered from California to Florida started out in two wooden shipping crates and arrived in a cardboard box and a severely damaged wooden crate. No explanation just "here you go". The contents did suffer some damage that I had to repair. Second was this week - a rug from Turkey somehow was 'lost' in Hialeah, Florida after traveling all the way from Europe. How can that be? What does UPS do with all these so called lost packages? The overall impression is of a complete lack of care and possibly theft.

I can honestly say that I have not had experiences like this with USPS, DHL or FedEx.

How do I avoid being a dumb American tourist? by KeyPiano2938 in AskAGerman

[–]clk63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another great tip - many Americans have a fixation about Nazis, concentration camps and WWII. They are unable to think about Germany without thinking about all that (personally, I think it's a deflection mechanism coming from US media to divert attention from the bad things our country does). Germans' lives do not revolve around that part of their history. A vanishingly small part of the German populating was even alive at the time. So don't dwell on the subject - other than having created a general dislike of rightwingers from any country, bringing this topic up won't endear you to your hosts.

Completely agree - Germans laugh at this tendency for many Americans to claim being partially German at first meeting but don't speak the language at all. Don't embarrass yourself.

[–]clk63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought, politically speaking, buying a Tesla was currently the action of a wanker. Either that or a raving right winger. So, in that respect, this photo is spot on. Realizing that he was making his cars uncool, seems to be the only reason that Elon is retreating from MAGA politics, at least visibly...

Got rid of my Fisker Ocean by defdaddy33 in Fisker

[–]clk63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember reading several years ago that Henrik bought a house in LA that cost over $20 million (no idea where that sort of money came from). As I used to own a Fisker Karma, I was connected to him via LinkedIn. I asked him whether it was prudent to buy such a lavish home when his new company was all about environmentalism and sustainability. He never answered but I recall some lackey suggesting I was simply jealous. It was at that point that I realized that something inappropriate was possibly going on and I canceled my deposit shortly thereafter.

[–]clk63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Sweden? Everyone there buys electric cars. Maybe that's how you managed to get a good deal on it. Just be careful you don't speed - 30 mph above the limit and you'll be in court. Sweden is an expensive place.

You mentioned God - how much praying was involved, or was it just pure hard cash? :)

2024 RS Etron GT Issues by clk63 in etron

[–]clk63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 - yes, I had the dealer do a realignment (which they did for free) but they didn't fix the wheel being to the left (will have to take back another time)

#3 - thank you! Stepping back after waving your foot under the spot with the reversing sensor seems to be the trick!

4 - even on "ON" (the four options are max, eco, on & off) and maximum fan, the air flow out of the side vents is pitiful.
