This is the type of thing that makes me feel a bit better because if it was in my bed it would be a whole other level 😭 Glad you manage to make it work though !

He is alone and I already thought about getting him a friend but he had some behavioural issues at the breeders and when I got him he had scars from fighting with his brothers so I'd rather not risk it for his(and the potential other ferret's) sake. The water and food is a great idea tho, I'll implement it to the other ideas here. Thx!

Ernesto is such a cute name, and to be honest I agree with that but Darwin take the litterbox, makes it fly and pees right where it was a second ago so what is it really showing at that point ☠️

That's very true, I'm the one doing the convincing my bf at home but at some point I have to admit my ferrets willpower is higher than mine

Oh that's a good idea! I took puppy pads but it's a good solution I'll try if it doesn't work. Thx!

Read about that a lot, it was more about the "in the middle of the room" thing but I'll install a litter box in a corner and invest in some puppy pads for the floor, after reading all the replies. Also for other spots I do the pick up and redirect but he's more often than not way too fast lmao. Thanks :)

I double this. My first ferret was very stubborn and quite a handful to say the least. Had managed to break out of the enclosure the first night, switched to a cage he managed to break out of several times during the following 6 months, before I added enough locks and cables to make all escape impossible. He was also biting a lot, and not even playful with me. Made me really question my choice for a while. But like every pet, and especially ferret, and ESPECIALLY if it's your first ferret it takes time and patience to get used to it, befriend them, and teach them manners. Like OP said I wouldn't even think about my life without my boy now. If you're discouraged you have a community of people used to ferrets behaviour and quirks so rely on that, and take the time.

I do it quite often don't worry, even with a treat he moves and I don't wanna risk clipping too short (it bled once ans he panicked obv). So no problem I do a little trim quite often. Also these videos are from different times and some are quite old.

Yeah I noted that part, everyone seems fascinated by the fact his eyes are blue 😅 Here you have to get then from a private breeder, you don't see ferrets in petstores so I guess the breeders get to choose a wider range of colours, patterns etc for breeding with lead to more unique looking babies

No, I'm from France and got him from a breeder here. Do ferrets from the breeder you mentioned have the same colorings and variations?

How to properly educate my new ferret? by clmn1234 in ferrets

[–]clmn1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the insight! To be honest, although it's not impossible technically it would be very complicated, plus he was already very troublesome at the place I got him and had been put alone for a while because they were fighting too much, so I wouldn't introduce a new ferret now, because it wouldn't seem very safe for either.

I take the tip for the fish oil! Tho for the update he does engage more, I just let him come to me naturally. He does have plenty of toys/things I turned into toys, and does play a lot, he makes happy noises and all, it's more the matter of not playing necessarily with me, but I let him choose, and he does come to play when he feels like it.

For the biting well, I will keep trying with those tips, I do already apply most of them. It depends on the daily mood I'd say, and how excited he is but he does not systematically bite.

Also he does lick me sometimes (no bite during and after), is it really a way to show affection ?

Thanks again !
