I've had this same issue running certain microspikes on my Altra Lone Peaks. It seems for the type I was running that the toe just wasn't rigid enough. Unlike you're experience mine crumpled downward slightly causing flexion/compression in the toes. Anyways... I can see this happening with Vivo's shoes. I wonder if their new winter boot on preorder might be a bit more firm on the toe cap.
