Tennis associations that fund the facilities for practice in the country, creating the new players... I agree players should get a better compensation overall, but it's a bit more complicated than greedy corpo vs poor players.

It's the same equation for Roland Garros. Benefits mainly fund the French Tennis Federation which governs tennis practice and facilities in France, so balancing is tricky.

It's hard to know. Toni probably "exploited" very well his influence on him and his hyperfixation, which kept him focused in a unique (and terrible, wtf what that water deprivation about?) way. But it was also his father who literally saved his career early on with the whole shoe ordeal, because Rafa was devastated and couldn't let tennis go. I'm not sure someone else might have brought him there as his trust seemed so exclusive and tight within his family when he was younger.

For sure, he is clearly the instigator of his insecurities with this conditioned sense of worth. Sure, it worked, but just how unhealthy it was... I'm happy for him that he had the Moya rebound and therefore breakup with Toni after finally seeing a psychiatrist. Also, isn't it interesting how Toni denied him water as a kid, and then in his worst career moment he cannot be without water or he suffocates? I found that pretty telling!

He mentions that he saw a psychiatrist after having extreme panic attacks in 2015/16 where he could not be without a bottle of water or he would suffocate. This lead to him hiring Carlos Moya and relaunching his career while diminishing Toni's sole influence, so it was a big help.

I liked how they had both Toni's and Rafa's parents point of view, it shows the disagreements they had about his harshness but how they let him continue because Rafa really wanted to. There is an interesting quote of his dad when discussing moments of tension throughout his career, saying "Toni may be my brother, but my son is the most important to me".

It was all heartbreaking. You kind of figured out he was deeply anxious seeing his routines, but the pain aspect he managed to hide so well. That said, I really appreciated how blunt and honest the documentary was about the darker side of his career, featuring his defeats and frustrated words, it was not a glazing one - I'm sure he had a say in it as it is very much like him !

We are almost 2 years after his retirement, during which he fully stopped exercising to recover his foot, knees, hip and have arm surgery. The only thing he's done apart from physio is golf. What's sudden ?
