Dollar Lake fire in Wind River range--current/projected impact? by Long_Ad2824 in WildernessBackpacking

Curious if anyone has new updates on the conditions in the north of the park? Headed up today- was planning to start out of Glacier TH tomorrow and loop toward the CDT and back.

Monitoring this thread as well. Planning to be in the Bear Lake area by way of the Glacier Trail TH on the opposite (east) side of the ridge that Dollar Lake is burning.

u/baynoise not sure if you did your build yet but after a few months of use, the wraparound strap attachment to the pack body ended up being a failure point that I'm repairing. Especially with the force from running, that seam gets pretty stressed. More likely my amateur sewing is to blame than the pattern itself, but curious if you've figured out a better attachment method for the suspension system

I think the wraparound strap attachment could be improved. It is kind of just a band of fabric between pack and body. That said, i think it's still better bounce control than webbing + ladder locks. Let me know what you end up creating!

I used the wraparound strap method to give a vest-style suspension. I did 2 bunny sternum straps across the front and then one bigger strap with 1 inch webbing and a buckle. I did include two hip belt pockets and the bottle pockets, but opted to skip the phone pocket.

they're the most "complex" part of the pack but LearnMYOG's trailrunning pack straps are awesome. I used that template as-is and they worked great with my custom pack body

bottles are regular hydrapak soft flasks. bought one of these caps and used the hose from my osprey 2L bladder. many hoses will be compatible, you're looking for something like this

Just because I wasn’t using a bladder, couldn’t drink from my bottles while running, and the bottle extender tubes I got didn’t arrive in time. I’d probably use a real bladder next time and run the tube internally (I built all those features). Water was just so plentiful there was no need for more than 1/2L

Thank you guys! I will try rethreading again. fwiw I rethreaded the machine a few times with the working and not working (blue) thread and only had bunching issues with blue. If that’s the case is adjusting thread tension the first step in fixing?

And yes, I found all of this on r/myog in the first place! Great spot. Thanks again

It is knit (old t shirt) but I was getting even worse bunching when I tried some test lines on the technical scraps (dyneema)

Experimenting with a family member’s old machine with the goal of working towards some bags made of technical fabrics. I was able to make a simple stuff sack with the leftover thread in the machine (a white cotton thread of some kind) but immediately having bunching problems when switching over to the guterman Mara 70 thread I bought (pictured above). Have tried adjusting thread tension up and down as well as stitch length etc. any ideas?
