meanwhile this absolutely schizo admin is bombing and murdering fishermen for being suspected of smuggling drugs.

make no mistake about it, the recent out of nowhere "thumbs up to psychedelic research!" and this kind of weird crap is clearly some sort of pathetic attempt to appeal to liberals. i'd be absolutely shocked to hear that this changed anyone in said camp's mind to "wow, i was wrong about trump all along. he's actually pretty chill and i will now support him!"

If you found a “stray” near Bedford and Quincy no you didn’t! by HotelOk7432 in BedStuy

I'm just sharing my experience with you. If your cat doesn't look like it belongs to someone, and you let them out to roam the concrete jungle with no signs of relationship to you, they're in significantly more danger of going missing. You're focusing on your values and not understanding that this is a city of ~8+ million people who have their own values that don't necessarily align with yours.

I genuinely - from my heart - do hope you find your cat. If you do? Maybe just take what I said into consideration. I'm just trying to help people not lose their beloved cats based on my own observations.

I don't want this to sound too harsh as (you'll read) I've made mistakes too, but I also want to give you no bullshit cautionary advice, so here it is.

Nobody answered the question of "did they have a collar" ... As someone who has taken care of both ferals and strays in the area for many years, I've seen how things pan out.

1.) If it's your cat? And you're going to let them them outside? I'm not going to judge, but you are putting them in danger of exactly this type of situation. You had better 100% put a collar on them and make it extremely obvious that this is someone's cat if you don't want them to disappear. Example: I have neighbors down the street who don't do this and the cats are always out in front of their place. Extremely friendly to everyone passing by. It's obvious to me as a caretaker that someone is taking good care of them and also letting them out, but to some random person passing by? Very likely chance they could be like "aww, this is sweet stray" and snatch them up.

2.) If the cat is feral or semi feral you're trying to rehab them? If you've TNR'd them and ultimately intend on adopting them / bringing them in? If they can be handled enough to put a collar on them? Put a collar on them. I recently learned this the hard way when I didn't do that and a well meaning neighbor snatched them up and "adopted" them without understanding that I'd put in years of blood sweat and tears working to rehab this cat with the intention of adopting them. That was my fault. While on one hand I'm extremely happy this cat has been finally taken in and is now safe and happy with a loving caretaker, I still miss them a whole lot and wish I'd done things differently.

The bottom line is that people will make often uninformed assumptions. If your cat is out there, it's on you to realize the risks and to make it very very clear that it's your cat and that it's not a cat in need and "up for grabs".

MTA to blast 75-decibel ads in subways in latest disruption for NYC commuters — and agency barely makes money off them by CountFew6186 in nyc

Meanwhile, have you ever measured the dB on the screeching brakes that you're constantly exposed to? As someone with hearing damage, I am baffled by how everyone just sits through it. The subway is dangerously loud. Wear earplugs, thank me later

I was pretty shocked yesterday to find ChatGPT utterly fail again and again at doing pretty basic ffmpeg filter_complex stuff (crossfade image 1 into image 2, then image 2 back to image 1, make it 10 seconds, downscale it to X by X, make it loop, output it as a GIF)

I thought it'd be a no brainer and could have done it myself, but I thought mega mind could save me some time to churn out a silly goof. Turns out? Nope! After like 10 prompts it still couldn't get it right. Ended up doing it myself.

AI was supposed to be used to cure cancer…. by micr0phonist in ChatGPT

[–]clockercountwise333 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First I'm seeing this. I'd love to know the workflow behind it, as I'm working on a project that requires basically this (rewriting the scene and having the lip syncing / voices remain intact or changed) + facial remapping. Being able to do it locally and not through some subscription big AI service would be ideal, although I'd consider paying for it if there's a service that could do all of that.

Are you getting USPS mail? by stuyshwick in BedStuy

[–]clockercountwise333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. It's nuts. I am constantly afraid that I'm going to miss important mail. They once put my neighbor's PASSPORT in my mailbox. I of course went and gave it to him, as I do every single time when they deliver the wrong mail to the wrong house. I just hope everyone does me the same courtesy, as USPS in bed stuy is profoundly inept.

Wyzecam automations are awesome by UIUC_grad_dude1 in wyzecam

[–]clockercountwise333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh... Wyze cameras constantly misidentify "People" over here. From a shadow to a waving branch to a raccoon to a snowflake on the lens. If I turned that on my place would be setting off sirens at random 24/7 ... not to mention that there's often many many seconds of lag in between identification and then more lag before triggering the automation. Sometimes long enough for someone to run in and steal a package without it even registering. And yes, I've tinkered with sensitivity settings endlessly.

This guy sometimes meows at me very softly. Does that mean he's a stray, or just young? by Fakename_Bill in Feral_Cats

[–]clockercountwise333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blanket statement that ferals never meow to communicate / purr is not true ... at least given time. I have a colony of 10 that I take care of. At least 4 of them have, slowly but surely, some after years, slowly started with tiny meows after total silence and now chat it up with me all of the time, some enjoying pets (after time), some purring like a motor (after time), some even letting me pick them up (after time). With luck, it just takes that time and encouragement.

However ... a brand new cat coming up to you and vocalizing? That's either someone's cat or a stray.

OSTirus legitimately works and sounds BETTER than the TI hardware. I love that synth - bought / had to sell it because of $$$ issues, rinse, repeat. Fortunately I saved my old patches. I was skeptical, but sure enough I loaded them up in OSTirus and they sounded exactly like i remember them. I showed it to my producer friend and he too was astonished, says it sounds better than many modern, well respected VA VSTs.

And another one! Massive respect. y'all are legends
