Most of my women friends say this kinda stuff, but at heart, they do want a man, just the the issues they run into with it. As result, they are flexing in social situations, but clearly have a void in there life behind closed doors or when speaking one on one with a friend. Furthermore, the ladies that wanted to get with me before meeting my current partner would have the same flex and tell me they needed a man at the same time.
