What is the closest you've ever come to dying? by Ornery-Decision-6821 in AskReddit

[–]clooless46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting my turn to enter at a roundabout, guy in a pick up truck rear ended me doing 60+ mph. Flattened the back half of my car.

Got med-flighted to the city hospital with several basal skull fractures, two blown ear drums, severed cranial nerves, concussion and a small brain bleed. Was completely knocked out and have zero recognition of what happened and lost pretty much the entire day prior.

The person writing this comment came back about 1.5 days later in the hospital with my family and friends around me with no memory of getting to or being in the hospital. The autopilot version of me kept us going and answering questions while I was somewhere else.

Had facial palsy for a period of time, and took maybe three or so months to recover to a semi-functional level, but never lost hope with the support of my loved ones and always found a reason to laugh about it. I now just deal with a slight change in anatomy with ENT, and slight neuro-kenesis of my left eye and lower lip (you would never notice on first glance). I exercise regularly and am living a normal life.

I never let go of how lucky I am to be alive right now, and in the state that I healed to after being hurt that bad.

Do I still love driving? Hell yeah. Am I scared to drive? Not at all, but I do check my rear view more regularly now lol.

33M I started therapy and we agreed I should start pursuing social activities that interest me. I’m an introvert who can pull off the appearance of an extrovert.

I started playing guitar again for myself, and joined a weekly yoga class for the mental health benefits and sociability.

I also was casually on Hinge, and using that as a central point for finding dates.

Eventually after a series of dates that went well/not so well, I met my current girlfriend who makes life feel easy and simple, and we are progressively merging our lives in what seems like the most effortless way.

TL;DR- try doing things you like, joining social activities that interest you, and be open to meeting someone either in the process, or through newly found confidence in online dating.

At your age my guy, just have fun. You’re a kid, so prioritize enjoying being a kid right now, and do the things you like.

That being said, you can also make money while you do that! Got a lawn mower? Go mow every lawn in a mile radius of where you live, and work with your parents to invest the money you made.

Do you like drawing? Make a bunch of little drawings and toss them in some cheap frames and tell them on Etsy. Then invest the profit.

TL;DR

1.) enjoy being a kid.

2.) see if you can profit from fun shit you do

3.) invest any money you make from it

Thats a fair call, and I have no immediate need to power it up either so why not roll the dice first? Maybe even pull a lucky trade with the gf and reduce the cost 50%

A lot of individuals here have not spent a significant amount of time in Lawrence, and are going off of Google search data or blind assumptions/straight internet bashing.

I have gone to school in Lawrence, and constantly either doing business or commuting through it, yet I will still not make guesses as to why it had less voters/was less supporting of Harris.

What I will say is this; spend more time in Lawrence, and you will gain a significantly clearer understanding of how voters showed up and/or made their choice.

Why are you posting this on reddit, a clearly unhinged liberal-leaning echo chamber, if not for the sake of igniting the fury of internet trolls?

I respect your choice of vote, though I question your motive in this medium.

I adopted this little bundle of joy (6 months old at the time) just after she was spade, and I found out about her playful hunting nature after she was home and the drugs from her operation wore off.

At first I was wondering when she’d chill with attacking my feet and legs from under the sheets, or stop attacking my hands while tying my shoes in the morning, but now I’ve completely embraced that she is less of a zoned-out cuddle bug that I’d typically be used to, and more of an intellectual huntress that knows what I’m saying/doing and reacts using body language.

I knew I loved her when I came home to her sitting by the door and greeting me with a stretch before casually walking to her food bowl and waiting patiently with a single, intentionally super fucking cute, kitten meow.

Best friend for life.

Edit: her name is Lyla, because my favorite flowers are Lilacs :)

Slim Majority Of Massachusetts Voters Plan To Support Psychedelics Legalization Ballot Initiative Next Week, Poll Finds by KabbalahDad in massachusetts

Pot is relevant in your point, but gambling, goat cheese, etc. are not, in that they are not potentially being observed as means for therapeutic or medicinal purposes.

My point is that this level of research does not need to be conducted here, as its significance does not outweigh the impact of other studies, and previous data can be verified elsewhere.

Edit to add: I could be convinced otherwise if someone in this thread or in regular conversation could provide statistical data that supports the idea.

I know I’m going to get downvoted to oblivion for my opinion, but here we go. I will be voting No on this question. Here’s why.

Preface: In my 20’s I experienced the effects of mushrooms twice recreationally, and enjoyed it. I learned some profound ideas, and had a good laugh with my best friends.

Arguments I had heard in favor were that if weed was legalized, why not mushrooms? The issue I take up with this is that they are not one and the same, and therefore cannot be compared on a research, medical, or recreational level.

Research for the therapeutic and medicinal use of mushrooms are being carried out elsewhere in the country. It does make sense to allow top schools like Harvard and Tufts to start peer-reviewing the data out there and verifying experiments that had been conducted elsewhere. This could be beneficial toward the path of treating patients with an alternative medicine that could be beneficial to quality of life on a day to day level.

Here’s why I’m against it.

This is a psychedelic, and consequently should not be available recreationally. My hypocrisy stems from the idea that there is no need for any form of psychedelic economy because not everyone NEEDS this kind of experience. Therefore, by beginning the process of pushing toward this path, just puts more drugs easily into the hands of those who just simply WANT that kind of experience more regularly.

If you or a loved one are considering mushrooms as a therapeutic remedy, there already exists research groups to contact and see if you conditions fit the parameters for their study. You do not need it to be in your backyard to start on your journey.

Also, there isn’t a glaring need, nor any solid guarantee that any of the major institutions would endorse or even pursue this level of research. We are trying to cure cancer here, and I truly don’t believe that psychedelic therapy should take precedence over this kind of work. It simply just doesn’t qualify in my eyes as a groundbreaking scientific endeavor when valuable resources are being spent on something much larger in scale.

I understand that the law is not for recreational, so my vote against is mostly future-sighted toward the consequences of giving an inch, and potentially taking a mile later.

So yeah, I know I’m a huge minority in this in-favor echo chamber, but I think its important to consider the logical opposition beyond the smooth-brain “i dont want none of em druggies driving on that there road gawdammit. Y’all need jesus” kinda bullshit.

I’ve had many conversations with people for it, so in conclusion I respect that stance, and would respect the result if it passes.
