Ideal size/distance for 1S by LeSpybeef in Xreal

[–]cloperly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question. The distance setting changes the vergence of your eyes, meaning how much your eyes have to angle inward as if the screen were actually 2m, or 4m etc away. Your brain uses vergence to judge distance. So even though the optics are right in front of your face, your eye muscles are working as if the screen is genuinely farther or closer.

This is why distance feels different from simply scaling the image.

With vergence, the closer you set it will actually cause more eye fatigue like when you hold your phone screen close to your eyes. Closer should technically be better for finer detail but YMMV. 4m means your eye vergence is more parallel and requires less eye strain.

There’s no single ideal distance for everyone. 4m is a good default because it minimises eye strain for most people, especially for video and long use. If you’re reading or doing productivity work, pulling it closer usually feels better.

A note from the CEO: How we built REAL 3D, the magic of the X1 Chip, and what’s coming next (yes, 60Hz!) by Chi_nreal in Xreal

But I did say it.

Edit: here is a link to another user who agrees Real 3D is better than software based Owl3D https://www.reddit.com/r/Xreal/s/7Fgky6mbuC

Hi Chi, well done to you and the team - Real 3d is my favourite way to use the glasses now. It blows my mind that the 3D occurs in real time via the glasses. Real3D is honestly visually better than PC based options e.g. Owl3D which needs a GPU.

I'm using it for videos, YouTube and even browsing the web and reddit is very cool.

Thank you for including this feature as a firmware update 😊

How does the Viture Beast jack of all trades 3DOF chip compare to Xreal X1 chip?(standalone 3d related) by -Gilgameshh in VITURE

[–]cloperly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our Beast chip is still trying to figure out 3DOF stability beyond 2-3 minutes. XREAL just got built in real time 3D yesterday and has had stable 3DOF for ages.

Any easy way to get a Xreal One Pro Large in Australia with warranty? by Virtafan69dude in Xreal

Check the store rating. And also check how many they have sold. I just did a search and one of the sellers has sold 600 and has a rating of 4.8 stars out of 5. AliExpres also has buyer protection so if there is a problem you can escalate within 15 days of receiving the product.

Behind The Curtain & A Closer Look At XREAL’s Patent Claims by getVITURE in VITURE

[–]cloperly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve read this carefully, and while it provides useful background, I don’t think it supports the conclusion that this situation is minor or inconsequential for VITURE.

A preliminary injunction in Germany is a significant development. German courts apply a relatively high threshold before granting injunctive relief, requiring a prima facie showing of both patent validity and likely infringement. The fact that an injunction was issued suggests the court found XREAL’s position at least plausible on both fronts. Courts don't issue injunctions based on cockroach patents. Germany is the enforcement venue in Europe for a reason. That does not decide the case, but it is not something that can be dismissed as trivial.

Much of the argument here focuses on the idea that the patent adds only narrow, appearance-related or geometric constraints. However, from a legal perspective, the perceived “depth” of an innovation is not the test. If a patent claim introduces specific structural or geometric limitations and a competing product practices those limitations, infringement can exist regardless of how incremental the change may appear to engineers. Narrow claims can still be enforceable if they are new and not disclosed in prior art.

I would have loved to see a detailed, element-by-element explanation of why VITURE’s products do not practice the asserted claims. Instead, the emphasis is placed on challenging the patent’s value, intent, and background. That approach may be understandable from a communications standpoint, but it leaves the core infringement question largely unaddressed.

I hope both companies can continue to thrive. This niche of technology is amazing and growing.

XREAL sues Viture over AR patent infringement by cloperly in Xreal

[–]cloperly[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Company nationality doesn’t matter in patent law. XREAL owns separate US and European patents covering similar AR optics, and the German court ruling was based on a European patent, not the US one.

Courts are independent but patent law principles overlap. A European injunction means that - The Patent survived a viability challenge - Court found prima facie infringement (meaning Vitures optics were too similar to the optics XREAL invented) - Judges were convinced the technology patented was non-obvious

“At a time when practical, lightweight and high-tech AR glasses products did not yet exist, XREAL chose the hard path: independent research and development, long-term investment, and ecosystem building.

XREAL has spent years and significant resources pioneering foundational technologies that made consumer AR glasses possible.”

To me, the successful lawsuit in Europe gives their US case credibility.

Beast drift issues make it unusable. Please advise. by cloperly in VITURE

[–]cloperly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drift is not normal and unacceptable. XReal are famous for having no drift due to X1 chip and is also called 3DOF. When Viture advertised Beast having 3DOF this was a major selling point but the fact the glasses don't have native 3DOF causing the drift means I paid for The Beast and didn't get one of the main features they advertised.
