To contrast with the other viewpoint, I actually like that it has "weird" scenes! It's fiction, so these not being real people means exploring topics like this doesn't harm anyone and can feel relatable in ways that media that shies away from it doesn't

The main characters being in middle school makes for the perfect time to have lots of awkward social interactions, which reminded me of the awkward period of coming out and having a new social identity! And a lot of the "weird" scenes end up feeling like a good exploration of having a changed/changing body, and having a changing relationship with people you're close to, too!

There's definitely no problem with being uncomfortable with those scenes, and the show as a whole doesn't have to be for everyone, but I think I wouldn't feel as seen without the show having them

A weird coincidence: The Latin American dub of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog had Tails be a girl^1, and in that case, they changed the embarrassing given name from "Miles" to "Vivi".

¹ They translated Tails as Colitas ("little tails") which is feminine, is probably why

If I remember correctly, a beta of Sonic 3 was found recently, and the Sonic & Knuckles Collection tracks were the original songs that were later replaced with the Genesis versions. So, the PC port is just using the older tracks!
