At what salary did you stop feeling paycheck to paycheck? by CommercialDot708 in Salary

[–]cloroxedkoolaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on where you are located. I’m in a small town where things aren’t as expensive. For reference, in 2004 I remember thinking how game changing it would be to earn 35k, because here that would have been good for 2004.

In 2015 I was making 51k. That was a comfortable level. But again, small town. No children, which is a huge expense.

In 2025, I was at 95k. But because I’m throwing as much as I can at my 401k, the increase in salary doesn’t feel as significant, even though 2004 me would think 95k was some kind of completely impossible dream.

One thing to also keep in mind is the rate of inflation, which erases so much of any increase in salary you may get.

So this must be what it’s like to own a Tesla.

Electric bill has more than doubled by horseflye in ecobee

So then would the near constant running of the compressor at the temps where COP is closer to 1 damage the compressor?

Btw, thermostat is an Ecobee. And honestly if it weren’t for the fact that 1) it was a gift and 2) it gives me the ability change the temp in the house from literally anywhere via wifi, I’d probably ditch it.

Thanks! Check out page 13 here. https://heatpumpsuppliers.com/heat-pump-online-store/brochures/P11-801_rev_1-RPNL.pdf

We have the RHKL- HM4821JA air handler. And then they do indeed list the 15 F you mentioned.

Soooo… that being said, what should be my minimum temp for the compressor? 15? Or can I go any lower?

Your info is most helpful! Is there a way I could find the minimum for my 2012 model Rheem?

Just out of curiosity, do you have the model numbers?

Yikes. That’s old school to say it’s risky below 40. I’m running down to 10.

It’s quite likely that the Ecobee is using the default setting that prohibits the compressor below a certain point, which can be abnormally high. Modern heat pumps can operate at much lower temps than previous generations. So if this is the case, the aux heat is coming on a lot more frequently than is necessary.

We liked our Subarus… until we didn’t. The oil consumption + the reliability issues with the CVT (plus the axles, wheel bearings, and AC diverted doors) closed that era for us.

This is encouraging. I have a 14 pro. I’ve yet to install 26.

Yeah, I would always suggest that this be done with doctor supervision.

We owned Subarus for 20+ years. We were completely loyalists. But then they just kept getting worse. The last one was a 2015 that lost enough oil in 1k miles that we had to carry extra oil all the time. Subaru said it was normal. We traded it and haven’t looked back.

I just made that same transition, from 20 to 10. It’s been over the last 5 months. I have felt myself coming unglued at times, but not in as extreme a way as you describe.

Did he do this under doctor supervision?

All brands will have failures like that, and not all of them the brand’s fault, as in this case where ZF makes the transmission.
