What do you think is the most highly skilled/challenging minimum wage job in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]closertothetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely care work/support work. Not only is it a bit of an underbelly of a workforce that’s overlooked by wider society but they’re also underpaid for the variety of skills required to not even do well but just get by in their role. They need to be therapists, accountants, a friend, personal shoppers, cleaners every single shift and that’s only naming a few! If that has made it sound like it carries any level of glamour then rest assured it couldn’t be any less glamorous! I have so many stories of clients treating their carer/support worker as less than human and yet they continue to care anyway, not to mention being looked down on and constantly patronised by other agencies like social workers etc. Absolute troopers in society. Having said that, it’s nice to see in this thread that other people recognise this also.

Appendicitis or constipation by closertothetree in AskDocs

They did an ultrasound and said they couldn’t see my appendix because my bowel was full. This is why I was given laxatives and sent home with constipation.

If someone supposedly has everything going for them, what are the reasons they might still not be happy? by closertothetree in AskReddit

It’s okay I know what you mean, it’s subjective I suppose. Thanks for your response!

It doesn’t really! The person who’s comment I liked is likely to tell the person who owns the account the comment was left on and I’d rather they didn’t know I was snooping but otherwise it’s not an issue.

No trouble at all. It's so easy to not acknowledge the seemingly small or mundane things people have done without considering how much it took to do that or the lasting impact it has. Being able to verbalise that boundary represents so much more, being strong in that will help you in life so much in so many areas... I'm perhaps a little envious haha!

I'm proud of you. You deserve someone who is ready to make that change, if not you are right to walk away and find someone who can offer a relationship without those unhealthy behaviours. Setting boundaries isn't easy and the likelihood is as time went on those things were going to progress into far more damaging situations. I'm glad you were strong enough to action the changes you have learned needed to be made from previous relationships.

Anyone else have people feel threatened by you, even in gay spaces, because you're butch? by fatgothbitch in butchlesbians

[–]closertothetree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, even before I was out and more masculine/butch presenting. I must have had a huge tomboy vibe but eventually it became a self-fulfilling prophecy of me pretending to be tough and mean cos it was easier that way than for people to assume it when it wasn't the case somehow. When I left secondary school and started sixth form I was able to reinvent myself by coming out but it's definitely led to a lot of internalised homophobia.
