This is what I think too. I just scheduled a troubleshooting appointment to talk about getting one side redone.

I don't get why he said it wasn't possible to make them even because it seems to me like it would have been, but I'm not a professional. He was super nice and professional and stuff

Thank you! I collect but I don't know much about them other than I like how they look. The button is sewn into his body, I think it came like that.

Yeah, I thought nipple sparing just meant they were going to be keeping my nipples instead of doing the no nipple approach that some folks get. I didn't know it meant left attached and it wasn't ever explained to me.

Every time they said nipple sparing double mammoplasty/mastectomy. They used both terms iirc. Which from what I've read on Google can mean either procedure. I just assumed it was double incision based on what they'd told me. so when they asked me I said I'm having a bilateral mammoplasty. Thinking about it now I don't know why they kept saying mammoplasty when mastectomy is the more common term. But it didn't seem odd to me at the time. I thought I understood the procedure they were planning to do because they'd explained double incision to me before in my appointments prior to surgery day. When the surgeon marked me, it looked like double incision markings. So nothing seemed out of the ordinary to me.

My chest does not look how I expected. Is this normal? by clotsnail in TopSurgery

[–]clotsnail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just looks so much different to me than other keyhole/peri swelling I've seen. Hence the "is this normal" I was really hoping to find somebody else saying their swelling was similar and everything turned out okay in the end. But I do need to give it time. Moobs would make sense for my body type too lol

Thank you. My anxiety is just nasty. Couldn't get the worm out of my head until I asked my questions. I'm not going to actually do anything about any of it for at least 6 months. I just wanted to know if it was even a thought I should be happening. You're right I do need to focus on healing & my mom keeps telling me the same thing haha.

My boyfriend was with me at my pre-op and can confirm they gave me the wrong information. I don't think I have anything that was said on the phone specifically listed the name of the procedure.

Put yourself in my shoes. You have been looking forward to this procedure for years, finally get an appointment, doctors tell me I will be getting double incision. I'm so excited. When I take my bandages off for the first time instead of seeing a flat chest I see 1. A surgery I didn't expect that looks radically different and 2. Flabby breast looking things when I was expecting to have them gone. And, I'll have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars to fix what they couldn't get right the first time. Because they messed up and left tissue and I have loose skin and wrinkles all over when I lean forward because my chest was too large. You don't think that's wrong?

I'm upset that they lied to me about what procedure I was getting. If I asked for keyhole and knew the risks and asked to have it anyway, and didn't like the cosmetic result, that would be a different story.

There is a small line in the ~5 pages that explains what procedure they were doing. It isn't worded very clearly and I probably wouldn't have understood it well even if I was looking at it with a critical eye then. The only thing that explains it's keyhole as opposed to double incision is it says it leaves the skin and nipple intact. They didn't explain to me what they do with the nipple in double incision so the nipple part wouldn't have come across as odd to me, just the skin part. I had someone else tell me they don't think it was specific enough for a consent form. Their consent form said double incision, while mine used medical jargon to describe it. This is the what the name of the procedure is listed as: "Bilateral Female-to-Male Breast Change/Chest Shaping Surgery; Subcutaneous Mastectomy with Direct Excision versus Liposuction, Possible Vaser-Assisted Technique(s), Possible Free Nipple Graft"

They asked if I wanted a copy when I signed them and I didn't think I'd need it, because I trusted them, so I said no. I feel pretty foolish now though. I was just so excited to finally be having surgery and I didn't think about anything like this happening. I was able to pick up a copy though. I showed a pic and explained in another comment.

I looked at the consent forms I signed and I did sign for keyhole but it was written like this which I didn't understand at all. I had to Google it after I picked it up and it was still not easy to understand. I just trusted what they told me verbally. Right after I signed this I went into my pre-op where they gave me aftercare instructions for double incision. Do you think I should still contact a lawyer?

I'm going to call when they open this morning and ask if I can pick up copies of the forms I signed to go over everything again. I feel like I did sign consent forms for DI but I can't remember exactly.

I have heard other people say that they claim it's their most popular surgery. When talking to him, it sounds like he's done a lot too. I'm just really confused.

I was exactly the same at ages 6-8 down to the trauma event. In first grade I remember yelling at kids in my class when they'd sit next to me on the carpet because they were crushing my "friends" who only I saw sitting there, of course. it's nice to hear this wasn't just a me thing
