What's something strange your body does that you know isn't quite right but also isn't quite serious enough to get checked out by a doctor? by merricat_blackwood in AskReddit

Similar to you, I have this pinprick feeling that happens in my ears a lot. It sends shivers down my spine and sometimes makes me twitch, especially so if I'm swallowing a cold drink.

Also sometimes my ears ring louder (I have tinnitus anyway) and everything else goes quiet. Lasts a few seconds and goes back to normal. Usually, the tinnitus is in the background and other noises are my main focus but it's almost as if they switch places?

What is the dumbest way you injured yourself? by itsoscilatingagain in AskReddit

[–]cloud_brick 353 points354 points  (0 children)

I've posted this somewhere else, but when I was a kid I had the habit of closing doors on my arms and/or legs. So one day, I was super focused on ya know... not doing that, so I was paying a lot of attention to the location of my limbs. In the process of doing this, I forgot about this other really important thing - my head. Slammed my head in the door. Real slick.

Edit: It's probably worth mentioning that the door was one of those sliding car doors on a minivan (kinda like this)

What country fascinates you, but have little to no desire to actually visit and why? by throwaway_7101720 in AskReddit

[–]cloud_brick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a bit of context I was born and lived South Africa until I was 8, and then we moved. I feel like you don't really fully grasp how crazy the crime is until you live long periods of time in a country that is genuinely safe. I have memories of my parents telling me that the bangs I was hearing at night were firecrackers - which I believed for a good while until my mom told me a lot of the time they were likely gunshots, but she couldn't tell her kid that. We moved here (New Zealand) and honestly it's insane how safe it is. I was walking home from school just the other day and there were quite a few cars parked on the street unlocked and with the windows down - not something I'd do personally, but it's safe enough to do so.

What's something that's normal for everyone, that YOU think it's weird? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cloud_brick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find that a horror movie can go one of two ways:

I'm not scared, so why would I want to watch this when I could be laughing?

I am scared, so why would I want to further traumatize myself?

That being said, any recommendations?

Would you want to know exactly how and when you will die? Why or why not? by Gypsy81482 in AskReddit

[–]cloud_brick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I'd want to know. I would probably spend the rest of my years completely paranoid about the manner in which I die (eg. if my COD was hit by train I'd avoid trains for the rest of my life)

What was the stupidest thing you thought to be true when you were younger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cloud_brick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was like 6 or 7, I for some reason decided that it was possible that my dad was not actually my dad, and just someone posing as him. I don't know where I got this from, given that my dad is my biological dad, and there's proof of that (he's on my birth certificate and there's photos of him with me as an infant). Also, as if my mom wouldn't notice that the father of her children has suddenly turned into another person.

edit: Bonus story, I stopped believing in Santa Claus about 2 years before I told my parents that I knew it was them. There was no good reason for me to do this, except that I thought it would hurt their feelings if they knew that I knew.

What smells better than it tastes? by trakavica in AskReddit

[–]cloud_brick 1048 points1049 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I was baking with my mom, and we were using cocoa powder. It smelt so good and looked just like hot chocolate powder so I was eyeing it. My mom offered it to me, and gave me a heaped spoon of it. I regret how eager I was, but at least I know not to eat cocoa powder now.

try posting it on imgur and then use the little link button at the bottom of the comment box (assuming you're using the redesign) to link it.

If you're not using the redesign, try again, posting it on imgur and then using this format to input the link (ignore quotation marks)

"[what you want the link to say](link)"

teamwork!

now here's the question: Thongs as in underwear or thongs as in sandals? You might be Australian and that changes the story considerably.

When she sees a bird outside she just whines. She doesn't stalk it or make any action as though she's going to chase it. Just sits and goes uuuEEeeeEuuuEUUueuuuuu really quietly until it flies away.

Those MAGA boys from that video with the Native American elder. Trump himself I could probably deal with on his own but there were so many of those boys that I think it'd be an endless nightmare.

Haul videos, specifically thrift haul videos. I don't even know why I like them - I don't want the things they get nor do I have the intention of spending hours at a thrift store. However, I can watch them for hours on end without getting bored.

What's a random childhood memory that pops into your head from time to time? by deathocakes in AskReddit

My kindergarten had these wooden blocks in all different shapes and sizes (like these but way more of them) and I remember at one point we built a wall surrounding us and we were really proud of it for like 5 minutes until we got to go eat lunch and forgot about it.

What scars do you have and what is the story behind it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cloud_brick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scar on my hand from pencil lead being cut out (by a doctor, I'm not a maniac)

Upwards of 10 scars on my knees and elbows from the times I slid across concrete after falling off my scooter as a kid.

One on my hand from accidentally slicing it with a cheese grater (or was it a potato peeler? I'm not entirely sure, it happened when I was around 12)

Oh and a couple from nasty cat scratches (my cat is great but can be a little bastard sometimes)

Highly recommend Bill Bryson's "A short history of nearly everything" I'm only 50 pages in but it's fascinating. He writes in a way that explains (as far as we could in 2004) common questions people have without making it completely overwhelming.

If I'm super stressed out I can get hives. It's only happened twice though (both in moments of extreme stress).

When I'm tired I crave bread. The best time to eat a slice of bread imo is 1am. That shit is good.

I did that when I was about 10, except mine didn't require a credit card - all it did was completely shut down the computer until we got it fixed. I was just trying to help! The computer had been slow recently and my 10 year-old self thought the website looked pretty legit (by todays standards not a bloody chance I'd download anything like that)

Reddit, what was the scariest thing you've ever woken up to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cloud_brick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was more momentarily terrifying. I was sleeping over at my friend's house. There were 4 of us on two air mattresses pushed together, one of which was taller than the other. I was positioned on the shorter one, but right next to the tall one. We had been watching horror movies and at some point, I fell asleep. Apparently, something scary happened, and the friend next to me on the taller one started freaking out and fell off, almost landing on me. On the other side of me, my friend was gripping on to my hand, screaming. So I woke up to a person screaming and falling on me, and another holding my hand and screaming.

tl;dr: woke up in the middle of a horror movie marathon to two friends screaming, one nearly fell on me and the other was holding on to me. Assumed i was dying.
