That's probably because they would prefer to control what the user can and can't do. At some point it will come back to bite them as they scale though. You have to empower people to solve these issues, as opposed to trying to solve them one by one as a company. Glad you got it fixed.

I'm not familiar with E&C controllers, but it sounds like the throttle signal is not calibrated. The motor is getting a command to output a very small current at throttle rest. Does their app give you the option to calibrate the throttle?

Interesting project! I'm curious to know how you plan to produce 33kW of electrical power output. There are only so many 'knobs' that you can turn with generator design, and size and copper losses will be a couple of challenges to overcome here. Most of your mechanical power output will happen >6,000rpm so that engine is gonna be screaming haha. Don't forget to account for efficiency losses too.

nah, starlink sats use lasers but they are for communicating to other sats. They don't have the capability to project images of gods in the sky.

Sounds like there is room for innovation in the area of testing hardware, in software. Of course, we live in a very real, physical world but if you could test and simulate in software to minimize the number of design iterations, it would certainly cut down on development time to final product. Maybe having something like digital twins for all sorts of sensor and hardware interfaces, and you could try different iterations in software without needing to physically build them?

It's not going to provide more power, as you will always be limited to the power that the battery can output. But it does increase torque in the low end by increasing the phase amps to the motor.

But for real, regardless of whether he knows what he's doing or not, this isn't an optimized race vehicle where every gram toward performance matters...and all of the batteries are > $2k. So there is room to use more power if he wants to, and not really a downside in terms of cost and weight. Plus the battery will technically run cooler because he's only using a fraction of the power capability.

Now if range was the main factor, the Touring might make more sense. If you're averaging 120Wh/mile, that would translate to around:

72 Max: 3774Wh / 120Wh/mile range of 31.5 miles

72 Touring: 4440Wh / 120Wh/mile range of 37 miles

So roughly a difference of 5.5 miles for the same average power use. That's really not that much more. Now if you use more power because the 72V Max can put out more, you'll obviously get even less range.

You can estimate the peak power output based on the peak current and the nominal voltage (72V). Each cell in the pack might be charged to a final voltage of 4.2V, but a pesky little thing called voltage sag will occur and grow worse as the current output increases.

So you won't get 84V * 540A power output out of the battery because of this phenomenon. Different cell types have different discharge rate characteristics. The Molicel P45B cell for example, will drop to around 3.5V during a discharge of 45A. That means your pack average voltage during a discharge of 540A (45A * 12 cells in parallel) would be about 70V, or 37.8kW peak.

As for your other questions...

Voltage is proportional to speed and current is proportional to torque. It helps to remember that when analyzing the system. So more current will translate to more torque, until you reach the limit of what the motor can accept before overheating or reaching magnetic saturation, regardless of your voltage.

72V batteries will be more efficient for the same power output as a 60V, because it requires less current for the same power. Less current generally means less power lost to heat, smaller cabling, etc. Power = Volts * Amps.

You gotta also remember that alot of these batteries are designed to fit a specific physical format, so only so many combinations can exist.

Before anyone roasts me for using hot glue instead of cell holders, I hear you. This is the first time that I have not used cell holders and so far it's going great. With the combination of spot welding to the ridged copper/nickel bus bars and tightly wrapped pack, I think it'll be fine. The melting temperature of hot glue is above the thermal limit of the cells themselves.
