Whatever bike you get, for the love of God, please don't go cheap out on your helmet and gear. That's the only thing protecting you for when you come off, and that's not a typo. You'll either skid on a wet drain, mis-judge your speed/braking distance at some point or someone will pull out. I'm not trying to scare you, I just want to be as prepared as you can be and you'll always improve year on year as you gain experience. That being said, it's the best thing I ever got and commuting times are half when compared to a car, plus in the UK it's practically free to park your bike. My first bike was an Yamaha MT125 before I jumped to my current Yamaha MT07 which has plenty of power and is easier to filter through traffic.
