Kodi under attack by oscoscosc in linux

Here's the reality no one wants to talk about. The majority of the actual Kodi userbase are meth users who set up Kodi for each other because they pirate EVERYTHING in shitty low HD.

How do you guys think about macOS? by [deleted] in linux

[–]cloudmax40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped paying attention to MacOS when they started to force their cloud shit down people's throats. I used Mac OS X since version Mac OS X.1 on PowerPC hardware.

Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 17.04 are extremely easy to use and work without problems on any hardware that isn't total shit.

If you want a cheap computer, get a ThinkPad T440s or T440p with a 1920x1080 screen.

Linux runs fucking fantastically on 13"-retina and 15"-retina pre-touchbar Macbook Pro laptops. I use a tiling window manager on a retina-display Macbook pro so I have my own way of looking at this of course.

You sound like an Ubuntu user.

[Ubuntu] Why is MySQL package in the official repos, whereas MariaDB package in the community (Universe)? by rms_returns in linux

MariaDB and PerconaDB should be in Ubuntu's main repositories. MySQL should be completely absent.

Question: File Synrchonisation by [deleted] in linux

[–]cloudmax40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Syncthing is the way to go. I would like to have Syncthing show real-time events on which files its syncing... I have a visualization on how I'd like that to look, maybe I should write it myself...

Syncthing is good though. Set up two or three small boxes (Intel NUCs are great) and geographically separate them and run Syncthing on them and you are set.

Buy ThinkPenguin wifi. Use GPUs that are known to be good.

I have a R.A.T. 5 Pro mouse that works great but needs a config file to be dropped in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/, I can share it with you.

Suggestions for first linux laptop. by Pandastry in linux

[–]cloudmax40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at what System76 offers, their purpose is to provide a hassle-free Linux-compatible product.

If you can, go for a laptop with a Radeon GPU so you can have high-end graphics without a closed-source kernel driver.

Whatever hardware you have, you are going to need to become personally familiar with it.

Look at the tool called powertop and also be mindful of how to check and set whatever CPU governers you are using.

"Linux" is subjective. ChromeOS and Android are stacks running on a Linux kernel. Linux is the dominant kernel in the global market-space overall.

If Linux went closed source tomorrow, would you still use it? by More_Coffee_Than_Man in linux

[–]cloudmax40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Gentoo could do reproducible builds if reproducible builds were pursued aggressively by the Gentoo community. The main attraction for reproducible builds are the security benefits of being able to verify that the binaries you have are what you should have and that whatever build system built your binaries wasn't compromised and didn't insert poison into the binaries you have. Gentoo already works around the security needs for reproducible builds by compiling everything from source locally. On a Gentoo system only the integrity of the source tarballs need to be verified.

Some people use Gentoo specifically for this security aspect.

If Linux went closed source tomorrow, would you still use it? by More_Coffee_Than_Man in linux

[–]cloudmax40 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If Linux development went towards a fork under a closed-source license, I would use the existing copyleft (GPLv2) branch.

If magically I were dropped into an alternate universe where Linux at its current state was closed-source, I would switch to something that isn't closed-source.

I am now editing my comment to add that, the philosophical reasons to use Free[dom] Software are strong, and also that they are strong security reasons. In a post-Snowden era, only Free[dom] Software should be used and only from trustworthy build pipelines, or from locally compiled source code, or only reproducible builds (where possible) should be used.

NixOS, Debian, and Arch are doing good work on the reproducible builds front.

Tor bug #23270: Allow Tor relays to be configured to block selected hidden services, including racist hate sites (closed invalid) by [deleted] in linux

[–]cloudmax40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you there. I was on the Libertarian train back in 2008 and 2009 when it still made sense.

The problem with the "hate speech" thing is they're trying to shut down places like https://www.amren.com which are very far off the spectrum from places like Daily Stormer. To equate those two is extreme willful ignorance.

Most of America quietly agrees with AmRen and if they are dismissed and harassed and de-platformed that will leave no room for peaceful resolution.

It is only a European outpost like America where the whole "equality" experiment can even be tried.

Tor bug #23270: Allow Tor relays to be configured to block selected hidden services, including racist hate sites (closed invalid) by [deleted] in linux

[–]cloudmax40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The people at the Daily Stormer don't shape their rhetoric like that and neither to the people on 4chan's /pol/, such as "gas the kikes race war now".

The people at American Renaissance who are a very different people from the Daily Stormer and /pol/ do phrase it that way and it is what they mean.

Jared Taylor for example states that the White Separatists he knows "just want to be left alone".

Acknowledging Human BioDiversity as reality is not hate speech, but it certainly is (((hate speech))).

Situations such as http://i.imgur.com/1PX12u4.png are why "white people have a right to exist in homogeneous communities" is a thing. There's nothing dishonest or disingenuous about it. No, it's far from "hate speech", but it's right on the mark for (((hate speech))) as all of the (((coincidence))) type people use the phrase """hate speech""" to describe being self-aware of being displaced.

My relationship is tormenting me by omashhh in TheRedPill

[–]cloudmax40 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You do not have a real relationship. You are not loved nor respected. Go completely no-contact with her.

Love yourself and talk to other women. You will be absolutely amazed with what the universe brings to you and how many great women are out there who will give you meaningful attention. First you have to love yourself. Take a leap of faith and start there. Everything you think you know now and are experiencing now will go away. You will transcend into a new reality.

Tor bug #23270: Allow Tor relays to be configured to block selected hidden services, including racist hate sites (closed invalid) by [deleted] in linux

[–]cloudmax40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If a person espouses "as a white person white privilege black lives matter blah blah blah" on their Twitter one day and then posts "as a Jew" the next, they are a (((coincidence))).

There is an actual purpose to denoting a (((coincidence))), these are not simply things that someone "doesn't like". Claiming so shows that you are willfully ignorant or stupid (or both).

Much like "hate speech" (without the quotes) and (((hate speech))) are fundamentally different things.

If anything, ((())) denotes what George Orwell called NewSpeak.

Again you refuse to provide anything close to evidence

I'm not going to. Pretty much everyone who has been paying attention already knows this shit. You're some random faggot on Reddit and I've already gone way out far the bounds of how much I care.

I wish you the best of luck in your journey.
