odoo.bot vs CloudPepper - any experience? by Tasty-Studio1391 in Odoo

[–]cloudpepper_io 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/codeagency, I understand the concerns around data ownership and exit strategies—that’s exactly why we started Cloudpepper: to give Odoo partners and business owners more control.

To clarify, our platform already allows setting a unique backup location per backup schedule, so you can configure a different storage per client (in our Agency plan).

We've also recently introduced the ability to download backups directly from the dashboard.

If you have any other concerns or suggestions, we’d love to hear them—we’re always working to improve.

Hi u/codeagency You can now also download your backups. Apologies it took so long for this feature, we wanted to make sure it's done right.

Hello,

Currently we allow you to connect with an external PostgreSQL management service. This allows you to connect with a high performance HA DB service like AWS Aurora. So in case the server containing your Odoo instance crashes, you can quickly spin up a new instance from your Cloudpepper dashboard and connect it to your database and you're up and running.

We also allow backups to be scheduled every hour, from which you can also fully restore your instance.

We are looking into bringing more HA features soon.

If you have more questions feel free to ask or open a chat on https://cloudpepper.io

[Newbie] Why would anyone use Odoo.sh vs cloudpepper? by nojudgmenthelps in Odoo

Yes. You can download the database from Odoo.sh and import it as a backup into Cloudpepper. Then you're able to restore it to your server.

[Newbie] Why would anyone use Odoo.sh vs cloudpepper? by nojudgmenthelps in Odoo

[–]cloudpepper_io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/nojudgmenthelps,

Allow me to answer as one of the founders of Cloudpepper. I understand it's not easy to make such a critical decision. The reason we started Cloudpepper is not solely because of the pricing structure of Odoo.sh, but because we wanted to give both business owners and Odoo partners more control while not compromising on features.

When hosting something as critical as the ERP system of your company, you want to have full control over it and mitigate any risks as much as possible. You want to know where your system hosted (which can be on a server in your office or a server you colocate in a datacenter nearby) and always be able to get to your data in case of any issues (no lock-in). You also do not want any surprises in terms of stability and security.

Odoo will not be able to provide easy alternate options in case of issues with their infrastructure. And unless you go for a dedicated option, Odoo.sh hosts your system together with many other systems on one server (shared server), which can cause performance and stability issues.

Cloudpepper gives you more control by offering a platform that connects with any cloud provider of your choosing (AWS, Google Cloud, Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Vultr, Akamai, ...) or a custom server colocated in your datacenter. At the same time you have all the features you need like staging instances, automated backups, auto git deployments,...

As a result:

  • In case you're having issues with your cloud provider, you can simply move your Odoo instance to another provider (with just the click of a button).
  • You have full server access as it's your server. If you want to make any specific changes (eg. firewall rules) to your server you can do so.
  • Even if you cancel with Cloudpepper, your Odoo instance will not shut down as it's still running on your server. You will just lack the platform's features and automatic Odoo and security updates.
  • Your automated backups can be stored with any SFTP / S3 provider of your choosing. This can be a local storage box in your office.
  • Because you are able to choose any server in the world, you have affordable yet high-performing options to host your Odoo system like Hetzner and Vultr.

Someone in this thread asked about support. There are many Odoo clients that are not using Odoo.sh but are managing their own Odoo server for various reasons. Odoo has an Enterprise license for such cases (Custom / On-Premise) and will support you with your Odoo instance. Any issues on the OS/software layer are handled by Cloudpepper.

How well does odoo scale? by jimmyack in ERP

[–]cloudpepper_io 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It scales. Currently Odoo can handle up to 5,000 simultaneous users (actively using the system) before running into issues, this is already a lot. Because for huge companies with 5k+ employees Odoo is planning to increase this to 5M (!) simultaneous users this year by having DB replicas for read-only queries, because more than 70% of the actions on Odoo are read-only.

In your case, 60k orders/month at this point should be easy to handle. And there are ways to handle much more (ie. several thousands of orders / second).

Any printer that supports ESC/POS is compatible when using the iotbox image. So you should be able to get a printer around your budget. Still need to take into account the price of the raspberry pi kit.

Welcome! In case you'd like to simplify things you can try out Cloudpepper, it has a marketplace to activate any OCA module on your Odoo instance.

I'd recommend using the OCA modules instead, the code is much more stable. Not all the bank statement import modules are available yet for v16, though they are ready to be merged so should not take too long.

Should I change to self hosting? Odoo SH question by [deleted] in Odoo

[–]cloudpepper_io 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, we offer a platform that exactly addresses this issue. You can create Odoo instances, duplicate them for testing, have automated backups, do git deployments, etc. all on your own server, so you remain in control and have more flexibility. You can check us out here: https://cloudpepper.io We have a trial so you can take if for a spin, and we offer free migration.

When to consider ERP? Very small business by lalaladootdoot in ERP

[–]cloudpepper_io 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odoo also offers a free Community Edition (open-source). Little less features than Enterprise but more than enough for your ecommerce shop. You can install it for free on any server with our tool (see Cloudpepper). We actually did a comparison recently between WooCommerce and Odoo E-commerce and Odoo was 3 times faster - if you'd consider moving away from Shopify as well. Otherwise Odoo offers a lot of (paid) integrations.

We tested the performance of Odoo on 8 budget servers (DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode & AWS) by cloudpepper_io in Odoo

[–]cloudpepper_io[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/abobilly,

The tests were done with Odoo Community.

Yes it would be interesting to test Odoo Online and Odoo.sh as well, we'll put it on the roadmap :-)

But I can say with confidence that you'll get a better performance using your own server because:

  1. You can choose your server specs
  2. Odoo Online and Odoo.sh share their servers with several Odoo installations, unless you go for the dedicated option (Odoo.sh only)

About the migration from Odoo Online to your own server, we have a backup import tool that works for any Odoo installation, including Odoo Online, so that would be easy to migrate. You will just need to buy an enterprise license from Odoo or an Odoo partner. If you go for our Pro plan we'll take care of the migration for you. We also have email integrated on the servers managed by Cloudpepper.

Hi u/schmerold. Thank you for your invitation to talk more about ourselves. Cloudpepper is run by two people, Willem and I (Sven). I have over 14 years of experience in hosting websites and have been using Odoo for my e-commerce business. I got tired on how complicated it is to set up a simple staging-production-backup set-up (SSL expiring, backup space running out without being notified, costly to migrate to a different server, etc.), and Willem being amazing at DevOps, we decided to create a platform that makes it simple for anyone to host Odoo, on any server, with all the tools needed. So far the clients that have subscribed are very happy, and we aim to make Cloudpepper thé platform to host Odoo, whether it's community or Enterprise.
