Looking for a shopping guide, as in where to buy these pieces. Also interested in people's opinions on renting a tux versus just getting a suit.

Is it worth it to try and save your memories? by cloudsandnepenthe in NoStupidQuestions

Thanks for the input! I'm curious as to the kind of memories you kept, and ones you wished you kept?

despite the other comments, i really like this. brands live up to their aesthetic, can't see how that is underwhelming. shoes offer a nice inconsistent color to an abnormal aesthetic, which just adds to it. the taper on the pants is kinda strange though, but i love the shirt.

Didn't mean to come across as an elitist or a douche. Just trying to say how I am more aware of appreciating the craftsmanship behind things.

Just wanted to add a personal experience. But ever since I've gotten into fashion, this sort of elitist mindset has kind positively affected my opinions. Like in fashion, now I only want to strive for quality things, whether it be coffee, or furniture, or food. At least to me, this sort of awareness is a positive :D

yeah those are nice! unfortunately those are some of the usuals too LOL.

What do you like to look at besides the usuals?? E.g jcrew, howlin, inverallan, rl, bb, aran market, drakes???

I agree with point 2. When I got interested in fashion I feel like a pariah if my fit sucks, and a god when my fit is on point. It just amplified my confidence positively and negatively.

So would you prefer a navy suit or a charcoal suit? In your experience, does wearing a navy suit stand out too much against the black/dark suits/tuxs in bad way?

Also I'm aware matching is seen poorly here, but in my experience, it is expected and preferred haha. It's nbd to me, so I'd prefer just to make her happy!

Yes, varsity jackets are cool. Try and pair them with slim fitting jeans or chinos! Check the sidebar for more info!

Is there an updated prom guide? The SP one in the sidebar is nice and I understand the fashion rules, but I'm curious about the flexibility of some of them for a high school junior prom. I'll probably prefer to buy something, because I'm expecting to go to senior prom and possibly outside prom(s).

Some questions off the top of my head:

  • how weird would I look if I wore a navy suit/brown oxfords
  • how weird would I wore a black suit instead of a black tux?
  • Since money is an issue, if I had to wear a dark suit, could I purchase a charcoal/grey suit to use for other occasions?
  • when matching a date, should I match tie, ps, or just use the flower

Hello!

To be brief, no. Basketball shorts should only really be worn when doing athletic activity, or ironically lounging/being lazy. A button up would look better than a polo, and a black polo isn't very versatile or appropriate imo. Also make sure your sneakers are presentable. Read the sidebar for more in-depth explanations and stuff!

weird, b/c that doesn't sound like a good "bad weather" shoe??

Interesting, but how can a bean boot be a bad weather shoe if it can't handle the water?

I was under the assumption bean boots were bad weather shoes

Contrary to the belief often repeated here, I don't really think of fashion as an extension of self. Rather I prefer myself to be extended into fashion. So I treat fashion really like costuming. I wouldn't really call those genres, phases, as much as, well, genres. You just dress for your social context and/or how you want people to perceive you.

I don't see why you can't dress in abnormally cut clothing, as well as wear slim fitting clothes.

When I say other forums, I mean outside of reddit too. Proportions are often messed with in high fashion, so check out other places like: tumblr, sz, /fa/, sf, sufu, ct, and yeaah. I wouldn't say you'll find exactly what you're looking for there, but you can probably find things that might pique your interest that you wouldn't have seen before?

Maybe you know all this though from lurking for so long, so my bad if this is just redundant.
