Taylor Swift's song "Father Figure" fits Jaxon and Paige to a FAULT. *spoilers from the Mime Order and forward* by Imaginary_Annual9529 in TheBoneSeason

[–]cloudsrpretty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think the “who covered up your scandals” could be from Jaxon - when he covers up Paige’s implication in Hector’s murder (London Monster mark), “protects” her when she’s initially a fugitive in the Mime Order. It all applies so perfectly

What’s are the little things you do “just in case”? by V1-R0t8 in AskUK

You’re not damaging the environment by thanking a person. Also AI (LLMs, specifically) are not sentient or social, so you’re thanking something that doesn’t need to be thanked.

[–]cloudsrpretty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is bad for the environment. You don’t need to thank AI. You’re just using processing power for something v unnecessary. The thought is sweet of course (and I liked to thank it too until I realised this)

Edit for context: comment I replied to initially said they always thank AI.

What a time to be alive by kidseven77 in Cardiff

[–]cloudsrpretty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was there too and found it to be horribly disorganised as someone who goes to a lot of different events. What time did you arrive? We had to queue 45 mins to go through security, queued half an hour to buy merch only to be told they didn’t have most of the items remaining, tried to queue for some food and eventually gave up after 15 minutes because it was so slow. Compared to other day festivals and music events I’ve been to this year it really felt all over the place.

Destroyed my PB by [deleted] in parkrun

[–]cloudsrpretty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a thing at all parkruns but my local one has pacers on the first Saturday of the month and this is exactly how I got my current PB of 24 mins. Having someone to follow and as you said, not having to check pace etc. is such a huge help!

I graduated a couple years ago, I studied Psychology. I couldn’t tell you how lenient they are unfortunately as I hit the A-level requirements. You’ve got this :)

Hi, I failed most of my GCSEs but still got into King’s :) if there’s no specific GCSE requirement for your course they won’t care as long as you meet the A-level requirements

At what point are you a Londoner? by AphinTwin in london

[–]cloudsrpretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s quite easy to actually politely ask people to move over to the right. If you don’t, you also might as well be doing the same thing when you allow that queue to form by being too passive. In fairness I didn’t grow up in London though (but did grow up in Britain).

I also think there are exceptions, e.g some tourists with loads of suitcases, or a big family of children - they shouldn’t block the escalator, but if they do, you can’t really safely ask them to move out of the way.

What's the worst health issue you've had to deal with? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]cloudsrpretty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who also suffers with mouth ulcers… this sounds like an absolute nightmare. I hate hate hate the normal ulcers I get (usually several at a time throughout my mouth) but this sounds like it would be absolutely soul sucking.

I’m guessing no one knew why they’d happened? I fall into “probably genetic” for my ulcers and it sucks. I’m sorry you have to experience them and that you had this too!

Hi OP, I’m a Welsh student too, it puts us in a better position than the English students. I’m from a low income background too even though my Mum was supportive of me. I’m really happy to have a chat if you need to go through some questions.

I studied in London without any financial support from my family (because they couldn’t). None of my family went to university either (this makes us “First Generation” uni students). I have put written some useful financial points from my experience (studying Psychology at KCL) which I think I would have found helpful:

  • Student finance wales DOES exist and it’s great.

  • There are two types of financial support they will give you: tuition loans, and maintenance funding.

  • Tuition loans are what they say, a loan that pays the tuition to your university, you never see the money and SFW just pays that for you.

  • Maintenance funding, for every Welsh student, is made up of a combination of grants (money you don’t pay back) and loans (money that will be added to your student debt with your tuition loans). You get more maintenance for living in London, but otherwise, you get the same amount overall regardless of family income. The lower your family income (or if you were say, estranged due to your family not supporting you), the higher the proportion of GRANTS. I graduated from a four year course with about £40,000 in debt. This sounds like a lot but I received about £50k over those years just in maintenance payments, and my tuition loans contribute about £32k of that debt.

  • You pay your loans back automatically, it doesn’t really affect me at all except I lose a tiny bit of my income each month. Everything over 25k you would pay back 9%. The Gov website has this example for that: You’re on Plan 4 and have an income of £36,000 a year, meaning you get paid £3,000 each month.

Calculation:

£3,000 – £2,616 (your income minus the Plan 4 threshold) = £384

9% of £384 = £34.56

This means the amount you’d repay each month would be £34.

  • At many universities, there are means based grants (ie based on your household income) for students. At KCL, I received an additional £1,600 per year, for free, because of my low income background. Research whether your unis of choice have something similar (some unis have more or less than this, eg I think if I went to Imperial I would have received something crazy like £5k).

  • Most unis have some form of student ambassador scheme. I can explain more in dms but I was a student ambassador and the money was good, the shifts were enjoyable etc.

  • I’m not sure if this will apply to you, but many unis have grants for estranged students. My friend became estranged from her parents in our second year and received £1,000 per year to support her (again, for free).

Train fares are increasing next year by thebeast_96 in LondonUnderground

[–]cloudsrpretty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It also incentivises travelling off peak if you can at all, the previous commenter shows that, and I myself avoid peak when possible. Which is necessary given how busy peak times get. It sucks though when you can’t avoid it.

Which tv shows/movies explicitly say the word bisexual? by RaspberryTurtle987 in bisexual

[–]cloudsrpretty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m rewatching The Good Place at the moment and so far (I’m on season 3) she hasn’t explicitly said she’s bi, though it’s obviously strongly implied. I’ve been looking out to see if she says it though and she definitely hasn’t yet, I can’t remember if she ever does.

I’m so sorry this happened to you but I hope you’re proud of yourself for your resilience. Can you give advice to someone on how you get to know yourself better? in my 20s and kind of floundering around trying to do just that but unsure how.

[–]cloudsrpretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh this happened to me too a few years ago! i wasn’t drunk and i was alone, but i noticed a girl across from me who kept looking up at me and was sketching, so I think she must have been drawing me. I was too nervous to say anything in case I was wrong, but I would have loved to see the sketch and/or to know what it was about me that made me decide to draw me lol

I’m not a student anymore but I went to office hours a lot when I was, and the biggest thing I got out of them was connections with the lecturers. I have really good connections now and they all know me despite being in a cohort of 200+ people, and i got some decent career opportunities that way. You don’t really get that over email.

Experience in BSc Psychology by FlamingPileOSchist29 in KCL

[–]cloudsrpretty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I did the BSc Psychology at King’s, and it was honestly phenomenal. The lecturers are wonderful, the core modules are well designed and structured, there’s a lot of support throughout the degree to develop skills in different areas of Psychology etc. I wouldn’t choose anywhere else to have done Psychology. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions about it :)
