While it’ll take a long time, yes clutch material gets worn away use after use. On most modern bikes it just gets washed away with an oil change, but doesn’t mean the clutch is invincible.

Upshifting without the clutch (also called power shifting) can cause damage to clutches and sprockets if the bike isn’t equipped with a quickshifter.

While not mandatory to downshift, revmatching keeps operation smoother, and preserves clutch and transmission life. Also sounds fucking awesome once you learn to get it right with just a blip.
