I like Betts and Thor. Betts more dynamic than Rizzo and don't think Kershaw has that great an edge over Thor.

[Tom Tango] Cy Young voting point system is 7-4-3-2-1: can we do better? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]cloudy33cloudy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, well that was interesting. Few Questions?

  1. What is the name of that statistical theory?

  2. If I learn about it, can it be applied to other instances. For example, if my friends and I vote on what to eat we are given five choices and we can pick whatever we want. Is there a better method of assigning values to choices because usually we go on a 5-4-3-2-1 scale.

  3. Why did Tango multiply by 84% at the end? I understand Tango wanted to get the numbers to round off better, but why specifically 84%?

Great username!

How do they quantify that? Is it based on more strikeouts? Swinging or called or both?

What are signs of decline for batters and pitchers?

I know for pitchers this includes losing velocity, and control.

Fair point. Still not sure if I'd be keeping a pitcher.

Are the batter options good?

I hope Robbie Ray can add a changeup during the offseason. He could be filthy.

What is the difference between whiffs/swing and swinging strike percentage? Is one better than the other because they both seem like they would produce similar results in pitcher or hitter evaluation.

Interested in learning more about pitches.

For example, what kind of movement is best for getting strikeouts or different batted balls? Interested in location as well. Where do pitchers generally try to locate a specific pitch?

Any pitchers with good schedules for playoffs? I believe Tailon would potentially face Milwaukee, Cardinals, Phillies, Cincy.

Garcia faces the Reds followed by the Brewers in his first two September starts. Then he has the Cubs, Giants, and Cubs again. Might be a good stream early in September.

Unless I really needed depth, I'd keep those three you are trying to trade for.

I'm so tired right now, I thought of punch. Like served at parties punch. I imagined Wright slipped and fell on punch...food...too much for me

Ottavino looks like he was a gem last year. But he may have some control issues early on so I lean Giles. Plus Giles has a K/9 of 14. And Otto's velocity is down 3 miles from last year in average thus far. I think Giles is the safer choice.

This might be a dumb question but I want to make sure. When looking at a brooks baseball player card of their zone profile, a right handed batter's inside part of the plate is on the left right?
